    ****ing hell!

I just rewatched the entire Bottom collection a few weeks ago.

    RIP.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Unbelievably sad news. The guy was an absolute legend of British comedy.

    RIP Rik.

It's weird I was explaining Bottom and the Mr. Tw@t scene from Guest House Paradiso to somebody at work possibly less than 48 hours ago...

Like I said in another celeb death thread I need to stop thinking or talking about famous people at work, every time I do they die :o

  • Does anyone remember his voice overs on Hogs of War on the PS1?

Yep, just saw this posted on Facebook. Genuinely shocked. RIP Rik. :(

I've only just found out. Absolutely numb with shock. I've watched Rik Mayall from the off and everything he had starred in (including Films and Bottom live on VHS/DVD).

A true British comic legend who will be greatly missed. Feel for Adrian Edmondson.

    :( :(

I love bottom and the young ones.

Watch both series on my PSP most nights before bed.

    They never get old.

    RIP

YES! I actually loved that game. Worms in 3D before Worms tried it! If you've not played it then I suggest you search it out as it's really quite good :D

I just woke up from a doze and checked my Facebook feed, only to see this sad news is all over my news feed! Usually when my feed fills up with someone who's died, it's usually someone that I really don't care about (sorry, but it's hard to feel for everyone, but the sheer outpouring of grief for Rik is entirely justified!

Not only was he a very funny man, but he was a very fine and hugely under-rated actor. Just check out the range he could produce in the "Rik Mayall Presents" dvd. He does everything from slapstick to real, heartfelt serious with what looks like complete ease!

Bottom,The Young Ones and Blackadder are just 3 of my often reached for "I'm bored, what shall I watch..." dvd's and am never left disappointed!

    RIP Indeed :-(

Also american werewolf in London. in the pub at the start.

And star wing for the SNES.

This is *AWFUL* news. Rik Mayall was a huge comedy talent, as well as a very good straight actor. He gave us so many fantastic characters, such as Richard Dangerous, Rick (from the Young Ones), Ritchie Rich (from Filthy, Rich and Catflap, and Bottom), Alan B'stard, Lord/Captain Flashheart, and Kevin Turvey.

Only today I was lamenting the fact with a co-worker that Mayall and (Adrian) Edmondson's proposed comedy, which was basically Bottom on a Desert Island (and idea they first used in a live stage show), was abandoned.

    A VERY sad day indeed.

If you're talking about little known appearances the did you know he was also in (in a larger role too) the sequel to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Shock Treatment? He plays a guy called Ricky and even has a few solo singing lines on the soundtrack?

Didn't he also do the voice for a strategy game on the Atari ST?

Anyway, Bottom is the funniest comedy program ever, in my opinion. I know it word for word, but I still find it hilarious when I re-watch it.

    Wow...that came from nowhere!

    R.I.P. :(

How can he be dead when we still have his poems?

Hogs of War rocked. One of the best PS1 games, and one of the few I still played when I'd moved on from a PS2 to an Xbox 360

    From Wikipedia:

"On 23 August 2012 the BBC announced that Hooligan's Island was to be adapted into a television series. The show was a Spin-off sequel to Mayall and Edmondson's BBC Two sitcom, Bottom. It was due to air on BBC Two in 2013.

On 15 October 2012, Edmondson announced during an interview with BBC Radio Essex that he had pulled out of the new series of Hooligan's Island stating that he wished to pursue other interests."

As Rik would say: "Damn you Eddie you big girls blouse!"

This explains allot of it quite well. It seems Ade now prefers cooking, folk music and poxy Morris Dancing (something I hate with a passion) to comedy and would much rather make programs about the English countryside than anything to make us laugh.

It's not often that a celebrity death affects me personally (the last one I think was Freddie Mercury back in 1991, but that's because I'm such a huge Queen fan), but Rik's passing has upset me. He was my comedy idol growing up.

    R.I.P. Rik.

He did some massively funny stuff, weirdly I initially kept thinking it was a bit of a dark practical joke he was pulling when I started seeing it on Facebook......but sadly not the case
