Lesser Known Gaming Gems

edited July 2014 in Chit chat
I was thinking the other day about really good games that nobody else had seemed to a heard of.

On my PSP there was a great Mini Game called 'Where is my heart' which was a beautiful 2d platformer with a twist. The screen was split into 5-6 tiles and going from one tile to another would take you to completely different part of the screen. Whilst you jumped up you could press L or R shoulder button to move the tile to get to a different part of the screen. It was like a 2d version of Fez, but, in my opinion far far better.

On the PS2 I had Mr Mosquito which was a 3d first-mosquito game where you had to land on peoples arms and then land and suck blood without getting noticed. Very bizzare, but, very good.

Klonoa 2: Lunateas Veil was a fantastic 3d platformer which I think is the best platformer I've ever played. Much better than Mario Galaxy in my opinion. Just looked on tinterweb and its worth $192!!!

Vagrant Hearts was a great RPG as well.

Mark of Kri was another game that nobody had ever heard of. The way you could take control of a crow to see where enemies were was excellent.

On my Ps3 I had Siren:Blood Curse which was one of the first games I got from PSN and it was cack you keckers scary. Well worth getting as it's still on PSN.

Anybody else got little gems that are worth trying?

Future Cop on the original Playstation is a cracker.

I had Fighting Force 2 on the PS1 and quite liked it. You played as Hawk Manson, a super human-being sent on a mission to investigate human cloning. It was a 3D take on the old 2D smack-em-ups type game. Heres a wiki link:-

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighting_Force_2

On the wiki page it mentions of bad reviews and a poor fanbase for its demise. I remember it was a bit buggy. On some levels you could enter rooms via automatic doors that open/closed when near them. One time I entered a room full of nasties and through a hand granade in there to blow em all up. I quickly left the room, the door closed, and boom, then the game froze and crashed. It was like the game was saying no thats just too nasty and evil you git:lol:

I remember a really fun two player SNES game called Smash Ball, I think. It was in Japanese, so I'm not entirely sure it was easy to get going, but it was great fun when you had worked out the menus. It was a lot like Air Hocky but with crazy cartoon characters.

A friend found himself accidentally inadvertently in receipt of a slightly dodgy pirate copy for some reason. Naturally he destroyed it after hardly playing it at all.

I had the demo of a game called Trash It for the PS1. It was a great little two-player romp.

PC "Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri" - I only had the demo for this FPS which I found tricky enough. It was a cracking game.

Sega Saturn "Clockwork Knight" - My oldest son had this when he was young. It was a good enjoyable platform game.

PS1 "Die Hard Trilogy" - I only found the first game where you are in the tower any good. It was a great game and I managed to complete it. The other two didn't interest me at all.

Scramble on the Vectrex often gets an airing and is close to the original coin-op.

I preferred the light gun game, which in fact I loved playing. Still got it but can't play it on modern sets, which is a shame. The driving game was pretty dire.
  • I really enjoyed the Italian Job on the PlayStation.
The classic mini chase scene from the movie is superbly done!

Jumping flash on the Ps1, but you've all probably heard of that.

Front Mission 3 on the PS1. If you like turn-based strategy with big robots. Admittedly the long speech-bubble dialogs between each battle can get tiresome with those stock Japanese emotion expressions. It is however a game for the lovers of Julian Gollop / Rebelstar. Lots of bits to take off other robots and put on your own. The close-up fight scenes are deliciously crunchy.
  • Projectyle on the Amiga was an excellent future sports sim. Like air hockey with a twist and 3-player simultaneous play. Some of the best music on the Amiga too. It seems like it's not that well known.

    Quantum Conundrum.

I only heard about this game a few weeks ago and it was less than ?5 on Steam so I gave it a go. It's a fun puzzle game where you have to explore a huge mansion and occasionally cross over into other dimensions that have different physical laws. Oh and John De Lancie (Star Trek's Q) narrates the game. Listening to what he says is hilarious.

    Among The Sleep.

This is the scariest game I've played in ages, probably since Project Zero. You play a two year old child who wakes up to discover his mother is missing and there's something evil after you. I don't know how describe it without it sounding cheesy but it really is anything but. I've only played the demo so far but the full game is in my to buy list.

    The Secret World

Absolutely brilliant and hugely underrated online game set in a version of our world where myths, monster and conspiracies are all true. I've been playing this since it launched two years ago and I love it. One of the most unique features is the investigation mission where you have to use your brains (and the built-in web browser) to solve some really obscure and difficult puzzles. More people should be playing this. It's fab. :)
