Having old furniture valued
Something completely off topic but I hope my spec-chums can maybe point me in the right direction. :) :) To cut a long story short:
I wanted to have a (40's? or maybe older) large wardrobe and bureau valued as I could do with the space and the money too. Seeing as the bank is in the red that would be an idea. :o
They are not being used anyway have been empty for a couple of years and they are taking up space I could do with.
I thought about just sticking them on Ebay to see what happens but I may not get a decent value or otherwise, but they could be worth a couple of hundred but they might be worth a tenner or so, so I'm slightly reluctant to do that. Then again its instant cash...
I think valuers would charge to come out to look anyway, is there a site I can use to get some kind of 'estimation' ?
Any thoughts ?
EDIT... I did take a quick glance on Ebay but there's a lot and I could not initially see anything identical, although I guess 'about the same' would give me an idea.

If you can, then not only will they be more likely to have a reasonable value but you should be able to take the details to a local auction house (a proper, physical one not an online one!) to get an opinion, or alternatively approach an antiques retailer.
If the furniture is generic stuff of the period, then to be honest the average online selling price is likely to be what it's worth, and a bit of online sleuthing should get you a fair indication of value pretty quickly.
Age in of itself doesn't mean increased value, and as items go out of style and fashion quickly don't be surprised/distressed/annoyed to learn that the furniture is not worth that much - supply and demand, and all that. If worst comes to worst then a charity, re-use store or even theatre prop room might take it off your hands.
Failing all of that, call the Antiques Roadshow and tell then you think you've got a Chippendale - they might send someone round to have a gander
I am in need of the space however. I'll have to spend a bit of time looking at completed listings I guess to see if I can find something identical or more or less identical and price it at that level or risk an auction.
At least I don't have to mess about with postage I guess :o:grin:
Cannabis farm is it?
:D
I'm in rather urgent need of a cash injection :( however small. :) Plus that room can then become my 'storeroom' as such.
Thanks. :) I'll get better pics tomorrow I have this one although the pic quality is poor. The 'drobe is tidy inside (its full of things currently) and just has a rail each 'side' as such.
It looks * a lot * better in reality than in that pic. As I say I'll try tomorrow when camera batteries are charged.
Although a cursory search of Ebay late yesterday shows 40 to 120 give or take.
Thanks. No its in great condition nice and shiny and nothing scraped or chipped off and the inside is immaculate etc. As I say camera quality is appalling.
That sounds a reasonable price all in all I guess. Thank you. :) Will sort out sale tomorrow then I guess.
