This single character brick tile must have been used in loads of games. Here's an (inverted) example from Cavelon.

What other games used it? Wonder which Speccy game was the first to use it... ;-)

Thro' the wall bricks look a bit different.

There must be a 1982 game that used this particular tile, but I haven't found it yet..

I concur. Doing a bit of digging, that sort of tile is ideal for Space Panic type games. The earliest Space Panic clone that I can find is Monsters in Hell by Softek. This appears to have come out in March 1983, according to the advert in Home Computing Weekly. Manic Miner was August 1983.

Jet Set Willy II - the sewer screens. The blocks upside down to the example you've given.

The bricks in Thro' the Wall, Lode Runner and Monsters in Hell are slightly different.

The earliest example I can think of is Pssst (1983). After that it's Hunchback (1984), Cavelon (also 1984) and Hunchback II (1985).

I'm not sure the graphic is as common as you would have thought.

The bricks either side of the lift in Dynamite Dan; also around the strong room.

I've used it plenty of times, although not that exact brick I tend to have just 1 row of pixels between bricks, it looks like there's 2 in that block?
