I think I'm old enough now to decide for myself what films I want to watch, thank you.

You do know that once you're over 18, it's not technically illegal to watch anything with a lesser rating, right? That some great movies have 15, even PG ratings? (Even if buying a U on a credit card does automatically flag you up on the Daily Mail's nonce list).

You do know what banter is, a 'cheeky dig' means, and why people finish forum posts with a ;) , right?

But it is true that kids cant have anything for themselves these, days without a hoard of adults hijacking it. Dressing up, posting oh so funny parody videos or critiquing as if its some kind of cinematic masterpiece. Its a film for kids.

Yes - and at an advanced level, can you spot it even without a smiley?

How does that rob any children of anything though? It just means more merchandise, if anything.

I would have thought kids would be more put off by some grumpy old curmudgeon dismissing a film as 'just for kids' than any number of bizarre and surreal adult cosplay conventions.

And if you think that kids won't appreciate a fart gag version of a Disney song then you've really forgotten what it means to be a kid!

It was just a cheeky little dig.

I did think so, but there are some who would have meant that quite sincerely :-)

I'll fully admit I really enjoy kids films. Most of the Pixar/Dreamworks/Ardman stuff has more soul/story/character/script than 99% of live action movies. Like Star Wars before it, they just change the world for a little while, and I think we all need a bit of that in our lives sometimes.
  • Some of the best story-telling in film takes place in Studio Ghibli productions and they're pretty much all U or PG.

If some of the 'mature' films these days had as much drama, characterisation, drama or heart as Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, Spirited Away or Howl's Moving Castle, the world would be a better place.

Right, where's my copy of The Care Bears Movie?

I watched Frozen once as the trailer looked ok and it looked like it could be quite funny, but I won't be watching it again I don't think. The 3D was really good though :-)

I think this trailer sums the film up well....maybe...

You have to be an 11yr old girl to answer this question.

Well we survived that... just about.

Disney in "slushy Disney film" shocker. Could've been a lot worse I suppose... although I was surprised to see John Lasseter's name associated with it, presumably he's the head of Disney animations now?

He's been in charge of Disney animation since the merger with Pixar in 2007. Almost all their movies since then have his name on them.

I suspect he's still rather more hands on when it comes to Pixar's films though.

The songs are the worst thing about it (well, I quite liked Olaf's song about summer).

Let It Go in particular uses the so-called "Axis of Awesome" chords for the chorus, the aural equivalent of magnolia paint.

That just goes to show how many Disney (rather than Pixar) films I've watched in the last 7 years!

I'm not sure a bunch of middle aged blokes should even have an opinion on an animated musical aimed at young girls :o

Well, if it's only for girls, it's an early introduction to sexism. Or feminism. Or something.
