I have returned! This time with no tape problems!

Hello all.

Some of you may remember me from about a month or so ago with this little spawn of satan...

1.JPG

It was all working ok apart from the tape unit which had a extremely strange tape issue which the speed would go all over the place...

after cleaning, tweaking, new parts, new belt... emailing many experts online... list goes on... I finally gave up and the speccy was sadly used for parts to revive a friends 2 spectrums.

This had left abit of a empty spot for me though and I've been thinking what to do next... I really love the spectrum and want to eventually try coding for it. After alot of time thinking about which would be best to buy next I'm happy to report i just got myself a 48k!

image.jpg

It's a 48k (working) with joy stick adaptor, power cable & tv cable. It was purchased from eBay for ?25 + ?6 p&p which i assume was a fairly good price?? I've seen 48k's on eBay sell for 40/50 so I'm guessing i did pretty well?

Main reasons for wanting a 48k apart from the obvious... Was I wanted something i can run MP3/TZX/TAP files into via my android phone and a mono cable which will make loading games and coding for it alot easier. I also love its size it will fit perfectly under my TV and I've also seen that it is very simple to perform a composite mod on which i want to do.

All in all should meet all my needs :-D First plan is to perform the composite mod as neatly as possible.

Will report back when it arrives.

Back again, I just had another bit of luck... this time i think i got a real good deal... I just landed a ZX81 with 16k RAM pack, audio cable, TV cable, BASIC programming book & official PSU for the bargain price of ?14 thats postage included too! :-D:-D:-D

I'm going to use this to try and learn BASIC and machine code. I think this and the 48k Spectrum will make a good little team.

    Good times! :-D

48k arrived.. the adaptor used on the unit was 12v out :-x:-x:-x:-x:-x

I bought a official unit from Spec-Chum which i was using since i got it but the unit made a wierd electric buzzing noise looked at the adaptor they had been using and it was 12v...

fantastic... another ZX bites the dust... I really have no luck... :-x

If that was the adapter they said they were using, and they said it was working, then I think you've got a good case for a refund...

I'm sorry to hear about your plight, but at least you didn't lose money on the deal.

I would suggest you check the Sintech shop from time to time, they often have refurbished hardware for sale, but sadly no +2A at the moment of this writing.

Here's the link to their Spectrum hardware section:

    Good luck :)

Good news, I found one and bought it.

Sadly, again its from eBay but I couldn't find any anywhere else so...

More good news... I just bought this:

    image.jpg

    57_1.jpg

Good old 128k spectrum (is it an original grey model???) (apparently working but... we shall see...), Official +2 power supply, light gun and best of all in my case, a joy stick which i needed for my 48k :-D

    All for... ?10!!!

Seriously some very cheap stuff on eBay if you take time to look (although in my case most of it doesn't work.... :( )

    Fingers crossed...

Nope, that's a black +2A/B (grey +2's have the tape symbols printed on the keys themselves, rather than on the case as with the +2A/+2B).

Larger PSU with a DIN type connector is also a giveaway.

Ahhh yes! Good point never noticed that... Oh well, fingers crossed this one works better than my previous +2A

    Just picked these up too...

I plan to start coding for spectrums so thought these might be handy.

Thats a bargain +2 for only ?10. I hope this one is a worker for you.

The joystick you have with the +2 there, is a Sinclair SJS2 model made by Amstrad. It will only work with +2 and +3 Spectrums due to Amstrad changing the wiring pinouts on the +2/3 joystick ports. They did this in an attempt to make you buy and use their own SJS joysticks with the +2/3.

However you can buy coverters that change the SJS ports to accept Atari standard joysticks. I believe fellow WoSer Fog sells them. Also many joysticks came with an extra grey plug like the Cheetah 125+ I sold you. The grey plug is wired for SJS Spectrum +2/3 so does not need a converter. The Cheetah 125+ will work with a 48K as long as you use the black plug, which is wired for Atari standard.

I found that Amazon is better than eBay for books. Go for the ex library books and keep looking as prices can vary a lot. I got most of mine for 1p plus 2.80 postage.

LOL, yeah, some are crazy but try these...

I see the Rom Disassembly is 2499.50 new and used. Got mine for 1.00 a couple of months back. Like I say, keep checking and you'll see the prices go up and down. When they are low grab the book.

Very nice, I see quite afew I don't have.

    0.01p + 2.80 postage... bargain! :D

Can anyone tell me if my +2 is a +2A or +2B ? I'm ordering a replacement belt for it but need to know if its a +2A or B

    Anyone?
  • edited August 2014
You almost certainly have a +2B, a proper +2A has the same motherboard as a +3 but with the FDC and support chips unpopulated.

    Anyone?

There is no difference between the drive belts on grey +2, +2a and +2b. Is a seller suggesting there is a difference?
  • edited August 2014
No it was just my assumption given that he had listed all of them separately.

Thanks for the info I will get one ordered.

I've done it again... I now have on top of all the other bits a grey +2 (working).

    Couldn't resist... I wanted a grey +2 and this was all cheap (?25 all in) I now have a ZX81, 48k, 128k +2 and 128k +2A or B...

No more eBay for me I think...

I wonder if there are any gems inside that box of games...

Will report back when it all arrives.
