    Recovered from my notification emails:
    One important aspect when considering creating image conversion routines is also the pal mixing. For example, even though the c64 only has 16 colors, its possible to have much more (without interlace) by taking into account placing specific colors next to each other which blend in to produce another shade

    The below is a non laced example (using my custom MUCSU-FLI method) FLI per line 8x1 and sprite underlay to increase the color density.

    And when using interlace, it can also be exploited to not only allow mixing of similar luma across fields, but also utilising the pal blending. This actually gives over 300+ colors.
