If you want a cheap laugh, take a look at the Atari 8 bit version of the game. I reviewed it a month ago and it's astonishingly bad. One of the worst ports of any game ever. You just want to scream "STOP GETTING JET SET WILLY WRONG":
I reviewed (in brief) the Atari 400/800 version although the collision detection is different and it was it seemed so far out I could not get far.
It's not just the collision detection. Whole screens are utterly broken. See in the video where I run the CPC version side by side with it. Huge screen layout errors, enemy sprites that are too big, badly animated and have the wrong paths. It's also ludicrously slow and your character can get stuck in the scenery.
Thanks for the comments and glad you and your son enjoyed the video. My daughter is the same age as him and she really likes Skool Daze and Back to Skool at the moment. You might want to try them out too.
Funny you should say that, Skool Daze & Back To School are last games he got really into and wanted to play, I only have the C64 'eval' version on a disk somewhere (shame the follow up wasn't converted), I wish I'd picked both those up for my Spectrum back in the day.. I did get Contact Same Cruise though, I'm sure I posted about these games not too long ago in some thread or another?
It is also about consistency. I called the first one a Director's Commentary on a whim really and so I'm just keeping things the same.
Aye, it's not personally an issue for me, but I can understand how some could say it's confusing. I don't think it detracts from the quality of the vid at all though.

I gave up after a few go's at it. I would need some of immunity cheat to progress :(
Wow, the Atari version is shockingly bad. I'd always thought the C64 was fairly awful (and inexplicably so) but it was at least a playable game. That looks like nobody ever bothered to spend more tan a couple of minutes checking it actually ran.

Yep. It simply doesn't work. You could forgive a few minor differences but you can't even get past simple screens like The Hall due to major screen layout issues.
Hilariously I've seen another review channel give a thumbs up to the conversion and describe it as "good". Words fail me. They play a few screens and clearly aren't familiar with the Spectrum game!

You do know you can download them from this site and play them on an emulator don't you?
Yeah, I have them downloaded already :) and I'm glad that they have the official nod too, but for the full effect I find that emulation only goes so far, especially when showing these games to my son, the tangible aspect of using the original machine vs just another game window on a PC makes it easier to put 8bit games into context and keeps the expectations in check.
Although I need to find a way to do the RF mod as the picture on my Spectrum is not what it used to be unfortunately. In the meantime I'm still figuring out to get WAV -> Spectrum working via a tape adapter, it's not working as good as it did for the C64 for some reason, which is weird due to <ahem> tape 2 tape copying being so much more effective on the Spectrum, but I just haven't found the time to sit down and work it out, maybe a polarity issue with the signal...
Realised the other day, when playing JSW: The Tool Shed is one of my favourite rooms!!! Something about it really appeals to me - it looks fairly easy, yet is deceptively more difficult than it appears (IMO).
I also like the Willy Comes Home version The Old Tool Shed.

:)
I've never thought that The Tool Shed looks easy but agree it is a great room.
I think my favourite is the nightmare room, it is called nightmare, it looks like a nightmare and is a nightmare. I like the way Willy turns into a flying pig in there too a nice touch.

Thanks
That's a really bad conversion I can't believe how long you kept going with it.
+1
its excellent

Because I simply couldn't believe how bad it was. You want to keep on seeing new screens so you can see how badly the programmers had screwed it up.
it sounds very very familiar

I'm talking about the speccy version btw.
Not sure why it was made to flash, though.
Pyskool - a remake of Skool Daze and Back to Skool
The image I was playing on my XE had one built in. Which was useful in the extreme!

I've managed to get 111 items and you one need 150 to complete the game so I'm not too far away. Hopefully just a few more weeks practise :).
