Paid for Android apps and games

edited October 2014 in Chit chat
I have just had an email from Google telling me I have ?15 in my Play store account which was from a freebie when I bought my Nexus. I have to spend this in the next week or lose it.

I'm not really interested in any films or books so I am looking at apps and games but I haven't really seen anything I would spend money on. Therefore I am asking for any suggestions which people find entertaining / good / useful or whatever so I can spend this money. The only thing I have seen of any real interest is Football Manager 2014 @ ?4.99 but it's got some bad reviews so not sure about that - Is it any good?

So help folks, anything considered to stop Google robbing me of ?15.

most games (that aren't free anyway) allow you to download the demo or "lite" version before deciding whether to shell out for the full version so you can always download a whole bunch of random ones you like the look of and see if there' any you want

depends what games you're into but had my ipad for a couple of years now, and the only games I've thought were worth paying for the full version of are 'Super Stickman Golf 2' and 'Offroad Legends'

The Room and The Room 2 are very good if you like atmospheric puzzlers.

And there's Spectaculator as well (the paid for version allows you play any game by supplying your own TAP/TZX/etc files).

The Android version of Broken Sword plays very well too if you like point'n'click adventures.

Android games are usually pretty inexpensive. ?15 should keep you amused for quite a while! You'd still have the best part ?10 left if you bought all of the above :)

EDIT: And on the non-games apps front:- I love Pocket Casts & PocketCloud and use them most days. Although I'm pretty sure I didn't pay anywhere near ?9.35 for PocketCloud. I guess the price has been upped significantly after Dell bought it. :(

    Marvin
    Boggle
    Software data cable
    Kindle
    Comick rack
    VLC
    Mocha VNC
    Tubemate
    Beat Hazard Ultra
    Spelltower
Galaxy on Fire 2 + expansion packs
    Riptide GP2
    The Bard's Tale

Some of those are free, but they're the apps I use a lot or spent a lot of time with.
  • Game Dev Story
    Out There
    Lords of Midnight
    World of Goo

Monument Valley - a surreal, beautiful but very short puzzle adventure.
Threes - quick pick-up and play puzzle game.
Shuttle+ - A no-nonsense but very nice music player with a host of options including a better equalizer than the one available in Google Music.

Well the bullet has been bitten....

Football Manager - Couldn't resist especially with googles money.

Lords of Midnight - I never finished it first time round so nows the chance

MyLog - No, not something to help you post pictures of your best dumps but, for me, a very good mileage logging program. Used it for ages on and off but gone for the full pro version.

That leaves me with ?3.02 to spend. I'm tempted by Doomdarks Revenge.

Thanks for the suggestions above. I have a lot of the games through the Humble Bundle Android deals and although Pocketcloud looks excellent I refuse to give Dell a ten spot even if it is googles money.

Anything better than DR for ?3.02?

Can't say I blame you TBH. It's definitely overpriced - 4 or 5 quid tops would be the going rate for something like that in my opinion.

What's the advantage of Pocketcloud over Mocha VNC? I routinely use VNC to remote control the PC under the telly.

If all you're doing is connecting to a single PC on your local network then a VNC client's fine. No real advantage for you to use anything else that I can see.
