Emlyn Hughes vs Matchday II
Ok, it's always annoyed me that when people talk about the best football game on the Speccy it's ALWAYS Matchday II, and usually EHIS barely gets a mention. Really annoying, as for so many reasons Emlyn is far,far superior in every respect to MDII.
I know there are others on this forum who agree with my sentiments, but what is the general concensus?

I never got on with any of the Match Days.
The great Matchday I evolved to MD II in a brilliant way. But I must reckon Emlyn was a nice surprise first time I played it.
By the way, don't you think this thread should be in 'Games' forum?

same.
matchday 2 plays like its in slow motion and has very limited gameplay imo. the power bar thing was clumsy. Emlyn is masterful, still play it now
I thought Match Day II was still the best footy game around until Emlyn was released though; to be fair to MDII, Emlyn came out a couple of years after it. At the time I didn't think the MDII one player mode was particularly amazing, but two player it was great fun.
Bet you're a Match Day fan!
If you want to play the best football sim on the speccy it's Emlyn.
Emlyn was one the last games I bought for my speccy. I can still remember buying it and taking it over to my mate's in a fit of excitement. We played the heck out of it, mostly as two-player versus the computer and trying to cross in for each other and get the best header or volley. Sliding tackles were great and the little bursts of acceleration and inertia as you sped up or slowed down were great. As were the little half-circle turns to get around players. It just felt right.
Don't get me wrong, I've got a fond memory of playing MDII and it's a good game but once you play Emlyn you realise the Ocean game isn't really footie.
Emlyn was the first game to allow goalies to catch the ball and to drive; most other games had the 'keeper 'flop' on the ball to deflect it out
Emlyn allowed for different heights and power of shot. Players had inertia, speeding up and slowing down, which was something not seen in footie games before.
Players had stats, so knowing where to play players was vital. Also they could be subbed/rested when in league/cup runs to conserve their stamina. Never had any of this before.
The game was totally customisable, from player names to the type of socks they wore. The game had a fantastic player interface with a menu-driven system - something I'd never seen before (or I don't think since on the Speccy). Although sussing out how to start a game the first time you played could be a bit tricky!
Above all it felt like a proper game of football, and it still baffles me that MDII is always the game that is heralded as THE footie game on the Speccy (RG was guilty of this recently).
MatchDay I and II were sympathic games and playable.. but almost prehistorical when compared to EmlynHughes.
