Had some of the late father-in-law's tea wine last night while watching Montalbano.

1998 vintage, considering it's just made from a few tea bags, some hot water and yeast it tasted remarkably like an expensive sherry :)

A freezing cold pint of Guinness at the Columbus Bar near the airport. I've said my farewells to my mother and this dirty old town, and I'm heading back to the states tomorrow.

    An update...

Leffe Brune was lovely. The honey one, not so good... far too sweet, I didn't even manage it all! (they were 750ml bottles though, so at my age I can be forgiven)

Never did have my JD and gravy, maybe another night.

  • Went out on a work leaving do last night. Was drinking Speckled Hen, Timmy Taylor Landlord, Deuchers and finished off with some Jack and Coke.

Not feeling too bad considering. Maybe it was the walk outside this morning to de-ice the bird baths that cleared my head!

A U.S. Beer. Samuel Adams 13th Hour. It's some kind of Porter Stout thing. I think it's called 13th hour because that's how long it takes you to drink it, its almost as thick as treacle. Interestingly the bottle has a cork in it, and when I opened it, it make quite a percussive pop and fizzed up like champagne. At 9% alc / vol and with the gas it has quite a kick. It's definitely not a session beer or one for an empty stomach.

Some German stuff called Wernesgruner, it's alright I guess, tastes quite nice for a cheapo German import.

Watch it be the German equivalent of Fosters though, or Viborg pils

Had an Oakham Ales Scarlet Macaw last night. Bit too hoppy and bitter for my taste, but very refreshing.
