Yup listening to it right now it's good, I've definitely heard "Punch in the face" before, as for the rest of the album not really sure unless I was really really f**ked up when I listened to it? Which is highly possible?

Aye might have been where I heard it? Isn't this album only a couple of years old? Probably why I've not heard it, not really into Industrial that much, I like early era industrial type stuff, but as time went by I kinda lost interest in it, as bands like KMFDM went full blown techno....and bands like dare I say it NIN went a bit too goth for my liking (I expect a telling off for that last comment ;)) :D

Aye read some comments by some people who've been following them since the 80's, and they're all like "What a swansong!".

So good so far, tunes are a little longer than I'd like but they sound good, samples and things seem a little comedic, but that doesn't bother me. Dubstep can f**k right off up it's own ringpiece when you have stuff like this ;)

Al Jourgenson is hilarious, I'm well aware of the humour, but hidden in the humour is also a nastiness of some kind of truth. Like a lot of bands that do music that doesn't appeal to trendy pricks :D

Never heard of Squarepusher, when I saw the pic, and read the name I thought it was going to be chip tunes

Guess not? It sounds familiar, but I can't recall ever hearing anything? I may have heard some of the earlier stuff, and not even realised it?

Yeah I'm not a massive Squarepusher fanboy but he's the master of the chopped-up Amen break. This remix was the first thing I heard by him, I love the way the Amens build up...

This is another favourite of mine from around the same time 1995-6

This came out when jungle had turned into "intelligent DnB" as Boozy puts it, I always hated that term but you're definitely right to call Squarepusher "intelligent" rather than the jazzy snore-fests that passed for drum and bass from 1995 onwards...

If you want something really heavy listen to something by Weekend Nachos, it's like a mix of powercore/powerviolence, and sludge metal. Very very heavy indeed

that HardNormal Daddy was the only Squarepusher album I ever bought. Did like a few of his other tunes, Red Hot Car was great.

I was always more in the Aphex Twin camp though when it came to that stuff. Wouldn't really call any of it dnb/jungle. It uses a lot of the same breaks but couldn't imagine any of it being played in a jungle set tbh, it doesn't have that underlying 'groove'

Funny, I heard Red Hot Car the other day and wasn't too keen, perhaps because it was in swing time or something?

Well I think it's taking jungle to its logical conclusion... i.e. chop the **** out of the breaks, which is what I like... and I think it's got a groove of sorts, just a very odd one! :D

I suppose it's like you wouldn't call Shut Up And Dance or Urban Shakedown 'jungle' but 'rave'... but it's well on its way to being jungle.

Where's Mulder? He's the resident jungle expert... might have to drag him back over here.

hmm yeah there were a few crazy amen-choppers like Bizzy B and Remarc who I would say definitely were jungle, not sure why the Squarepusher type stuff doesn't strike me as being in the same category? not to get bogged down in the horrible 'sub genre' argument though anyway. There is good music and crap music! :)

    Spine!

Hard stuff, and not my usual form of "Hardcore" ;)

But I've had the running out demo on my mp3 player since it came out almost 4 years ago, and I'll be honest it's nice to see some lesser known bands that I have known about for a while finally make it onto ootoob, there's a chance people will actually hear them now.

Don't have the subhuman demo though, but I'm pretty sure I could get it quite easily if I wanted ;)

Exactly when I first heard them I thought what a load of sh*te, the hipsters will lap this crap up....but I found myself listening to them again and again, then they ended up on my mp3 player.....Now I listen to them when I have a crap night at work......and it's best for the rest of the grunts to keep away from me when I do

I had a quick listen and was all geared up to say WHAT?

I'm not sure I'd agree it was the album of the year, but it sounds like 80's music, and I quite like it, because it seems like one of the first post 80's bands that sound like 80's music without sounding like pretentious w**k**s.

Well done, I'm gonna listen to it all the way through now :)

regarding the 80s production - the best songs on it are when it veers more into Kurt Vile territory.

The Band-inspired Eyes to the Wind is lovely.
