Elvis is proper sh*te, never understood the appeal.

Tried to, but no, there's several ye olde singer types who are bearable but Elvis just annoys me, never liked him, never will.

king of Rock n' Roll my arse there's a million actual people who did Rock n' Roll who could've took that crown and none of them are a fat hillbilly sell out prick, with no more talent than the fat bloke with no mates in the bar hogging the karaoke machine in the hope some half human looking minger will feel sorry for him and recognize his talent.

    Rant over :D

Just thought it fair to inform you Boozy, I have reported this post to the Hovis appreciation society, I'm sure they will have a thing or two to say about it ;)

Brilliant! More Oi! and nasty niffs to listen to, and hopefully with a classic Ivor Biggun tune.

There is never enough of Uncle Ivor on the Radio, there should be an Ivor Hour every day !

Yes, generally it is utter rubbish, but I do quite like some of their Friday house slots; Pete Tong (not sure if he's still there though), Annie Mac, Monki, and the most beautiful house DJ to ever grace the Earth, B Traits. :-)

It's been utter rubbish and unlistenable since 2001. All yo-yo out of time beat rubbish. Get with the times daddy-o move to Radio 2. Just remember to switch off at 7pm on Tuesday.

With Edgar Froese passing away this week, I thought I'd give Tangerine Dream a listen. Heard great things about them, but I've never actually heard anything by them (apart from their work on GTA V I guess). Just listened to Electronic Meditation, think I'll be getting into this lot at some point.

It's been utter rubbish since 1995. The OD'd on the Britpop era and then real crap began and has never ceased,
As Mat says get to Radio 2, just avoid Sunday mornings (Steve Wright lovesongs and Terry Wogan).

Same here. Never knowingly listened to their stuff but heard good things. Will have a gander (well, the aural equivalent).

Radio 1 got **** the day Mark and Lard left. My kids were listening today and we all agreed it was rubbish.

Mind you I've been listening to Radio 2 for 10 years and it's not that much better, too much Take That and Olly Murs for my liking. But I religiously listen to Popmaster every morning and I also love Pick of the Pops on Saturday afternoons, which goes to show what an old fart I am these days.

Amen to that. I miss those guys.

It's good to see Mark presenting Glastonbury.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Mark & Lard's 10pm to midnight slot was probably the best radio show ever. I was almost guaranteed to literally cry with laughter at least once per show. They obviously had to tone it down when they did the breakfast show but still did things like making super furry animals - herman loves pauline their single of the week, which is probably the most uncommercial song ever to get in the charts

I used to listen to their first show Hit The North on radio 5 too, won about half a dozen prizes entering competitions on it. Best prize I got was 30(!) CDs, worst was a space hopper, lol

Didn't they end up getting banned from the breakfast slot? That's how they ended up with the afternoon show that had the Mystery voice and wotnot on it.

    MMMMMushn't Gruuumble! :D

    WHOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!?

I remember when they had the morning slot me and my mate were sitting in McDonalds in town, and Mark just shouted might I add very randomly "Rusty Bullet Hole!".

My mate spat his coffee all over the table, and choked on it

    This...

...Is the best Shirehorses tune ever

They first played it on the radio one afternoon and me and my mates were stoned as f**k just having a few beers and playing some playstation (or maybe even Saturn or Dreamcast at the time :D). We were laughing as it played out, but when the Sheena Easton bit kicked in I think I almost swallowed my tongue

Mark & Lard were on holiday when Princess Diana died.

Kevin Greening was standing in at the time, Radio 1 bosses were impressed by his "sensitive" handling that they decided to give him the job after that.

Nice bloke, always shoehorned something like Daft Punk or early Fatboy Slim at 8.45, but then he started getting boring, they drafted in Zoe Ball as co-presenter, THEN he started ranting on about his bin bags not being collected so they quietly dropped him.

Apparently he was the one who introduced Zoe to Norman Cook.

On that note, I tried unsuccessfully to find excerpts from Mark & Lard in the afternoon recently, especially the 'FIVE POUNDS' and 'HELLO MARK' bits. EDIT - if anyone can find these, can they let us know :-)

Not everyone's cup of tea but for me they were a real gem. I remember their very last show, just after which the 'emergency automatic' playlist DJ was accidentally activated instead of the next show.

should point out mark Radcliffe + stuart maconie's show is/was very entertaining too. Maconie is like the anti-Lard in some ways but really funny imo, comes out with some hilarious 'banter' (hate that word). somehow I stopped listening to them when they relocated to 6music

    Steven Malkmus - Mirror traffic

not listened to this in ages, forgot I even bought it. very pavement sounding, which is what I thought his early solo albums lacked
