Kung Fury ~ 80s-themed action comedy mini-movie!

You might have seen me going on about this various places for the last year or so...or you might have seen the Hoff-sung song from the movie....if not, then watch this anyway!

Features Gore, Hitler, Laser Raptors, Swearing, Killer Arcade Machines, giant Vikings...so probably NSFW!

    There's even a Speccy in it and everything (10.17 - 11.40ish) :)

  • There's a C64 tie-in game on the way...
  • I saw this on Steam the other day! I've not had chance to watch it, bit I noticed they have an oldschool scrolling beat-em-up to go with it. Looks good :-)

started off strong with great humour,

    kinda petered out though,

makes me think they rushed when writing the middle and end

  • Yep! This! Months and months ago when it was just a preview it looked amazing.

But even though it's a sendup of retro movies and it does a good job of it, it fails from moden clip,syndrome....and that is they show you everything good in the movie, then when you watch it it's those good buts padded out with sh*te...

But it was still better than about 90% of the newer movies I've watched in the last 10 years

  • amazing recreation of the whole 80s b-movie feel, but yeah the humor dwindled a bit. found the main guy annoying

    garth marenghi's darkplace ftw!

  • I can see how some people are a bit disappointed with it, as the trailer did show the best bits...but it was pretty much what I was expecting! And it does a great job of parodying the 80s.....it does just make me wish there were more actual proper 80s-style films, without modern colour coding and with synth soundtracks....

And I liked the Aryan moustache chat....but it seemed a bit like it was from a different film! :D

And I liked the Aryan moustache chat....but it seemed a bit like it was from a different film! :D

I've watched the movie earlier today. It was pretty funny but a few flaws for me were:
    1. The 2 soldiers sitting next to the tank talking about moustaches ... they didn't even speak proper German. The blonde one was bad enough, but the lines by the older bloke  sounded like gibberish (though according to some YouTube comments it is Swedish). I know the film was made on a tight budget but you'd think they could have found some native speakers in the part of Sweden where the movie was made.
    2. The footage of the Nazi soldiers with gas masks in the background used when Kung Fury fights a few dozen of them in the foreground, also re-used a bit later when Thor and the others come to the rescue and do their part. That footage felt a bit stupid because the soldiers kept turning/facing/looking in all kinds of directions including up when the action was right in front of them.
    3. The Hoff ;) not having a more prominent role, the music video had me thinking he might be featured. Sure, he has a small sort of cameo at the end but it's too little ...
By the way, apart from the obvious shots of the Speccy you can also spot a tiny "ZX Spectrum" sticker/logo on the side of the head of that arcade machine robot after it is shot by Kung Fury. You can see it in both instances, at the beginning and the end of the movie.
