  • The sound of the high kick in Way of the Exploding fist...  Such a civilised way to win a fight.
  • The crowd clapping in Konami's Ping Pong. In fact, every sound & music of this game was brilliant.

Or the not so satisfying thud from the low punch connecting, symbolising a cheap and very easy victory indeed :D

  • Before the game starts, that intro flange-type sound of Zub materializing in Zub.
  • Materialization and losing a life sound in Knight Lore, especially the death one, to me it sounded like your guy getting shredded.
  • 1. The ouch noise Horace makes in Horace and the Spiders.
    2. The frogs in Travels With Trashman
    3. Scoring points in Klax
  • The 'AAAAARRRRRGGHHHH!' noise in Spike when you die. At least I think that's what he says...

It's very loud and very distorted but kinda works.

yeah very similar to the crowd noise in in hypersports when you qualify an event. Might even be the same noise?
  • In Robocop when you die.
  • When you run out of action points in Laser Squad.
And the little tune at the start of your go in Rebelstar 2.
  • Helicopter's engine sound in "Tomahawk". Also the helicopter sound in the first section of "Beach Head II" and machine gun (from enemy car) sound in the second section.
ZX Spectrum +2 & PicoDiv SD,
    Timex 2048 & divIDE 57c
  • All of the effects in Rebelstar, which I think were sampled? Particularly like the arming a weapon effect, the dugga dugga noise when you are hit (which loops depending on how likely it is to kill you), the zeeeaaoooww laser fire sound and of course the dang a dang dang-a guitar riff when you end your turn. Superb.
  • When the starting menu opens in many early US Gold games (Raid Over Moscow, Beach Head, Tapper, ...), those three sounds, brrri, brrrri, brrrriiiii, each one standing out level, controls and list of game keys.

    Legendary sounds! :-)

The AAAAAAAAAAARGH! when you die in Pippo as well, was possibly one of the first 5 samples of speech I heard on the auld ZX? Maybe?

Might go and have a go of Pippo now, that game's f**kin' great! :D

I used to be really good at it as well, haven't played it for at least 5 years now that I think of it. I bet I suck now :))

  • manic miner level end air countdown sound
  • Time Gate had some pretty awesome sound effects - the laser blasts and landing on the planet were my favourites.

And the tune at the end of 'Penetrator' after the little fireworks display was great! Tried to make it into my text message alert on my mobile, but I couldn't get a clear enough recording.

always liked the little sound you used to get in Hypersports swimming event if you accidentally pressed 'breathe' before you were supposed to. the guy would stop and that bizarre repeating clicky noise would happen, lol. think it would be quite good to sample in a tune

The arcade game also has a pretty cool sound there - the guy kind-of goes "Gibbert! Gibbert! Gibbert!"

Yep! Always makes me think of Beach Head and Raid Over Moscow.

The infinite death loop sound in Technician Ted followed by the boot into the trash-can up and down pitched effect.

Hahaha, I know exactly the sound you mean... I always thought he was saying "Give up, give up, give up" because I was so crap!

  • Never knew there was an arcade version of Hypersports. just found a vid on YouTube and luckily whoever was playing pressed breathe as soon as the dived in the water, so I've heard it now, lol
