velleman k8036 - Video signal cleaning?

Although velleman reports having discontinued this kit and its primary use was to remove macrovision protection I found among one of the very few reviews of this product someone stating that it also works for "normal" video cleaning.

Once it is possible to perform the composite video/ s-video mod for the spectrum, I was wondering if some video quality uprate would result from using this kit. :-?

Anyone has tried this before? Any thoughts? (Is that a LM1881 I seen in there?)

  • There will normally be no special improvement to the signal of a ZX Spectrum suing this kit, I am sure.

Yes an 1881 chip is part of the schematic to separate synchron signals from composite. This is necessary to mask the macro vosion signal. A 4066 C-MOS switch is used for a sample and hold circuit to cut of macro vision signal. There is no need for such circuitry to improve the Spectrums video signal.

  • I am a very glad you pointed that out.

Thanks, I saved some money this time. ;)
