  • shed 7...another boring middle of the road band :P

Yep f*ckin' hated them, even before they got semi-popular, wanted to kick that eggy headed little sh*t in the face!

....and they were blatantly ripping off the other "Britpop" bands that were surrounding them at the time, and least steal from a real band, instead of all the other drivel that's also stealing from other bands.

Still they weren't as bad as Menswear I wanted to actually murder those hoity toity namby pamby....

  • yeah they were probably the nadir of britpop. the factthey spelled it Menswe@r made them even more punchable!

They were galaxies ahead of some of the other tosh that was around.

Plus even though Louise Weiner was a tad mannish I'd have put it in her bum :))

  • She was on pointless celebs the other week, looking more fit at nearly 50 than she did in th britpop days imo

embarrassingly I admit to liking a couple of sleeper tracks. Inbetweener and about 2 others I can't remember, lol
  • Inbetweener was ok iirc. They were generally pretty crap though. Elastica were another one who were strangely popular.
  • I thought Sleeper were ok (for the time). Not a patch on the likes of Echobelly though :)

One of my favourite Britpop bands was The Bluetones, i loved their first 3 albums, then they went a bit crap, i think they're still around.
I still like Ocean Colour Scene who are still recording but don't have big hits anymore.
Other Britpop bands i liked were The Boo Radleys and this classic:

    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • I couldn't bloody stand them to be honest, but the vid for Marblehead Johnson was hilarious, fat suits are always hilarious :D
    Every night is curry night!
  • The Bluetones first album was brilliant but yeah they went a bit crap after that.

Yeah, there's a nice bit of variety and I probably don't need to hear the singles off Moseley Shoals again any time soon ;) Debris Road off Marching Already is a lovely song.

  • Now some spanish hard rock from the 80s:

    Leño - Maneras de vivir

    Rosendo - Agradecido

  • the original Iron Maiden (from 1969) pretty doomy

  • Ha, I've started a britpop debate!
Not ashamed to admit I loved Shed Seven at the time although I rapidly went off them. At the time (1994) they were one of the only half-decent bands to play the toilet venues of Bedford, so it's nostalgia more than anything.

Echobelly and Elastica were ok, Sleeper were meh, and I actually liked some of that Menswear album (nostalgia again, an ex taped it for me, obviously wasn't true love :P )

That's not bad I suppose, chop it in half, and speed it up and you've got a decent punk track ;)

Another thing that's weird about that to me, the photo off the back of the sleeve, if you cut out the guy in the white t-shirt and just leave the other 3 it looks like 3 of my old mates from school, who were actually in a band :))

I thought Elastica stood out a bit because like Oasis they had their own sound. so many of those Britpop bands (e.g. Cast, Seahorses, Gene, Bluetones, Marion (remember them?), Menswear, Shed 7, Travis etc etc) all sounded virtually identical if you took the vocals away. it's like they all wanted to have exactly same guitar and drum sound. I don't think any of them were truly terrible, just really unoriginal

  • Here's another 90's erm, classic!

    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • The problem with Britpop was it wasn't grunge! :D
  • Ram Jam - Black Betty
  • anybody remember snub tv?

    Marion (remember them?)

That reminds me, the same ex I was just on about and her friend were both obsessed with Marion. I liked one or two songs but never really got into them. Listening back to a couple of tracks now and they just sound like a heavier Shed Seven, with that Johnny Marr guitar sound (although if you're going to rip anyone off...)
    anybody remember snub tv?

Yeah, was listening to Gary Clail "Human Nature" the other day and couldn't remember what program it was the theme from, I had to ask the internet.
