games with sampled sound

edited June 2005 in Games
How many games have sampled sound? I don't think about sampled speech.
I remember one game: Shanghai Karate 128. Anything else?

The Incentive game Zippy have a sampled Yippie! I know it's a voice but as I believe I heard it is writtenin basic and for 48K this is really rather good :o)

There is a download version of the Mastertronic game Cronos that has sampled instruments and music on the title screen.

Not Zippy but Splat! (as Daren says).
And Splat! is by no means 100% BASIC, especially that speech part.

Yes indeed! Splat! staring Zippy, who moves very quickly in a "basic" sort of way. thankyou for the correction!

3D Starfighter - worst speech ever
    19 - excellent
I Ball - horrible speech, Tim Closs (was that his name?) also had the worst voice ever anyway.

Jail Break, where it would seem most of the memory was used up on the speech, with scant regard to the actual game.

Firelord when you died, clank when the helmet hit the floor (slightly more obscure than the others)!

Thanks for the posts but one more time: games with sampled sound (NOT speech).

Aye, I think it says "Rock the baby, rock the baby", but it sounds more like "What a baby, what a baby."

Advanced Pinball Simulator and Professional Ski Simulator and I think Grand Prix Simulator 2 (unless those three were CPC versions only)

if you mean sampled in-game sound then i think there is no such game

The only one would be Firelord then, as the speccy simply wasn't powerful enough to produced sampled sound *and* run a game at the same time.

Firelord's effect was short enough so that the pause wasn't intrusive (since it was when you died anyway), but that's it!

Glider Rider 128k technically would qualify too, as it was a smapled tune played when it was game over, but again, it wasn't "in-game", and everything still had to stop while it played.

    As an additional...

...what a shite game Shanghai Karate is! Truly awful! no wonder they bunged in sampled sound to try to make it seem better than it is!

Starglider 128k is about the best use of sampled sound I have ever seen in any game.

How about the 'applause' on Ping Pong?

I know it's not sampled applause, but I still reckon it's a sample of summat.

Nah, that's not sampled. Just white noise, where the pitch and rate is changed.

Were the punching, kicking and falling noises in WOTE fist sampled?

I think I've found one... the 128k version of Chase HQ not only has sampled speech, but I'm sure the sound you hear when you choose to start a game is sampled from the arcade version...

Yes, I agree. I reckon it's a sampled sound. Dunno if it's from the arcade or not.

Doesn't Dark Sceptre have sampled sound effects?

They were just being lazy, isnt that exactly the same sound they used on the other Imagine game - Hyper Sports ?
