Sir Terry Wogan

edited January 2016 in Chit chat
Very sad breaking news that Sir Terry Wogan passed away earlier this morning after a short battle with cancer.

He was a great broadcaster and all round good chap. He will be missed.

  • Not really a fan, a lot of the time I found him quite annoying actually. Although sometimes I didn't mind him either...

But once again he was one of the ones who was "always there", and now he's not.....quite depressing really...

Bloody hell, what a terrible year. I agree with Boozie about his omnipresence. I remember him at from ages about 4 to 8 as the host of Blankety Blank. Then that booing (because I was a kid) evening show Wogan only made interesting because it had a live band and the occasional funny guest. Then there was Children in Need which for a while typified 80s televisual fund raisers. Aunties Bloomers in the 90's in which he established himself as a BBC Stallwart, the Radio 2 stuff.

I have to say in his latter career I was a fan. I very much enjoyed listening to his weekend shows on BBC R2 whilst about and about in my Car when living in Wales.

RIP Wogan, you will be missed, along with television center.

  • As a kid I used to think he was just some boring old bloke with a chat show, but that completely changed when I started listening to his radio show at work, in particular Janet and John:

    RIP

I remember listening to that one in a traffic jam, driving to work in Birmingham a few years ago. I was nearly pissing myself laughing.

  • Have to agree with some of the sentiments. He wasn't my cup of tea in the 80s but that all changed when I listened to his Radio 2 show in the early naughties. Hilariously funny, particularly Janet and John, and the music was fantastic too. It was at that point I realised how far ahead he was of the cretins on Radio One. RIP Terry.
  • Like Leespoons I used to think he was just some boring bloke with a chat show. But as I got older I realised he was more than that; he was a boring old bloke with a radio show too!
Never knew he'd been knighted, I didn't even know he could ride a horse let alone protect these shores with his jousting skills!
  • I think the early warning that he really wasn't well was when he missed Children in Need last year. He must have been really quite ill :(

I've always liked him and his sense of humor. He'll be missed by many, many people and it really is sad news :(

  • Wasn't a big fan of Mr Wogan. But I did like the short cartoons Stoppit and Tidyup that he did the narration on.
