Laptop issue

My laptop seems ti have died, i noticed yesterday when i switched it on there was no hard drive activity and the screen was blank, even though the power light was on.
I'm wondering if anyone knows what the issue could be, is it worth getting repaired or will i just get a new one?
It's an Acer Aspire 5536 and is about 6 years old.

Checked the bios? If the date has reset to 2007 or something old then you might need to replace the coin battery (it's inside somewhere).
If it is the battery then you might also need to show the BIOS where the hard drive is.

Not sure how the check the bios cos the screen is blank, i can't get any activity from it at all.
I think it's dead :(

Plugged it into an external screen? Yup, ok no hard drive activity....
If it is dead then you have some spare ram chips a DVD drive and a hard drive to bung into a external box and reclaim the data.

good luck if you send it off to get fixed it took Acer 4 MONTHS to fix my CD drive on my acer aspire. the shop said they could've done it in under a day but it was still under guarantee and had to be sent off...

acer aspire = worst laptop I've ever used too. always going wrong. sorry

As it's 6 years old I would just bin it. Take out the hard disk and put it in a HD cradle and see if it powers up. At least you will get your data. Buy something like a Dell or similar. Acer is cheap junk. Sorry.

Luckily there's no valuable data stored on it so it's no loss but i need a laptop for a project i'll be starting soon, i might just buy a cheap notepad instead.

I had one of those, it's pretty much how it behaved when the mobo died.

I've seen a bad RAM stick do that. Stopped the CPU from running far enough to display anything on screen at all.
