New (ish) owner of spectrum goodies!!! :D

Hi peeps!

A couple of months ago I managed to get a huge haul of spectrumy goodness through a colleague who worked with my wife.

It only cost me postage but there was 4x15kg boxes of stuff... all in pretty good nick too!

Hard ware wise I received a ZX81, a spectrum plus and a plus 2, the extra memory block for the ZX81, a joystick interface and a few joysticks...

The first computer I ever had was a spectrum and I'm a big retro gamer anyway so when he offered the stuff I was totally over the moon!!! There is 45kg's of games with very few duplicates!!!

Anyway... I just purchased an RGB scart off ebay as I have a framemeister that I run my consoles through so I can run them off my computer monitor through hdmi...

Obviously it only works for the +2 a I was wondering if there was a way to mod the others so they too could use the RGB cable and look all swanky on my fancy monitors???

Also... what is the best way to clean them up and what should I check to make sure they ain't gonna die on me???

I'm a bit of a noob with this stuff but I am learning!!!

Thanks in advance!!

  • Forgot to add that I'll try to list all their games at some point... and I'm interested in getting one of the harlequin boards to build a new speccy from scratch and have a go with the project olta thing...
  • The ZX81 and Spectrum+ can be modified to produce composite video. They both cannot produce colour for a RGB SCART lead, but you can route the composite video to the SCART lead if you wish.
There are expansions for both the ZX81 and Spectrum+ that can be bought that do produce colour RGB outputs, they have a standard SCART socket on.

So the question is, what is your budget?

  • Hmm... not much at the moment! Having just bought an atari st and fancy soldering station recently... but I'll look into them... I may have seen the zx81 interface... though I don't know how much it was... I'm still learning on the spectrum front as it's been over 20 years since I last owned one... I'm sure I've got a few of the missing games in the archive too! Need a good rummage! :D
