Which Is The Best Game?: Speedball vs Speedball 2 (Amiga)

edited May 2016 in Chit chat
Welcome to the May edition of Which Is Best?
Last month proved an Amiga A500 landslide victory for the Chaos Engine player select screen music, joint second place was the CD32 and SNES versions followed by the Megadrive, then Atari ST with DOS version last.
It was a great turn out in votes and proved very interesting seeing how those votes played out.
So, here we are a month later and It's time for another addition of "Which Is Best?".
This time I place both Speedball games on the Amiga face to face, which game is the best?,...only your votes will answer that, happy voting!

All the best, Zeus

  • Ice cream, Ice cream!
  • Speedball II - one of my favourite games of all time.
  • Speedball II for me as well. I spent many hours round my mates house playing that amazing game. We'd skive off school, buy 5 fags (yep, you could buy individual fags from a dodgy newsagents on the council estate my mate lived on!!!), nick some cans of his dad's McEwans Export and sit in his room playing Speedball II.
    Sausages is more important
  • Speedball 1 is cool, but Speedball 2 is much cooler :)
  • I'd be a little surprised if anyone voted Speedball as being 'better' than its sequel. Other than boozy, maybe, just to throw a spanner in an Amiga vote ;)

Where some sequels go off in a different direction (like Chuckie Egg 2) Speedball 2 just improved in every area over the original. Classic game and in my top 10 Amiga games easily.

Cor Chuckie Egg 2, now that was a perfect example of how to kill a franchise, to take an utter classic and forge a sequel in the way that game came out,...just criminal :'-(

Speedball 2 has pretty much won the vote, pity really as I preferred SB1 lol.

Nah that would just be trolling, I simply didn't vote for either as I hate both of them.
    Every night is curry night!
  • I prefer the simplicity of the original, the sequel added a lot of stuff that isn't necessary and just gets in the way. Horizontal scrolling is the worst, I liked being able to see the full pitch width,
  • The sequel was more impressive but fun and simplicity of playing two player on the original was never quite recaptured for me.
