Not suprised England lost. Hodgson's a terrible manager and should've been sacked after the world cup. He picked a squad of unfit and out of form players (Sturridge, Sterling, Wilshere, Henderson) ahead of in form players like Danny Drinkwater, Michael Antonio and Jermain Defoe.

You were doing quite well until you mentioned Michael Antonio...

He'd have been more effective than Sterling. But then again so would a cardboard cut out of Sterling.
Any Father Ted fans out there who are also England fans may be able to liken their reaction to the result to Bishop Brennan's after Ted had kicked him up the arse.
As I said on FB - clearly England managers watch a completely different game to the rest of us. We weren't controlling the match after they equalised you tw@ McLaren; we were shite after they equalised and steadily got worse until it fell apart into the worst England performance since USA 93 and probably the worst England performance of all-time.
I can only hope this serves as a lesson to all future England managers - you simply cannot play any player who is not in form or fit - Hart, Sterling, Alli and especially Kane should not have been on the pitch after the group matches and Wiltshere should have been nowhere near the squad. They weren't solely to blame, just the icing on the cake of our utter shltness last night. I think Kane's dead-balls should now be shown as a demonstration of utter crapness from now on instead of Geoff Thomas's corner flag shot...
The only players to return with any kind credit are those that didn't get to play.
I said before the tournament started we should have begged Terry to come out of international retirement. Digging up Bobby Moore and sticking him on the pitch would have been more effective...
I've spent my whole life being repeatedly disappointed at England's under-performances at major tournaments. Even when they were good (in 1990 and 1996) they would eventually go out in a heart-breaking penalty shootout loss.
But last night, my overwhelming feeling was one of complete embarrassment. 8-|
Not taking anything away from Iceland who were brave and determined (though clearly limited), but it wasn't just embarrassing that England lost to such a lowly team. The performance was real head-in-the-hands pathetic. I really don't know how they could play so ineptly that 2nd half.
I can only assume they shat themselves! That's the only explanation for a complete inability to control the ball, pass, or shoot straight....
I'm a coach for my son's U12 football team and the two of us watched, open-jawed in disbelief at such highly (over) paid 'players' failure to demonstrate basic skills that our juveniles are better at....
Couldn't agree more Gwyn. All credit to Iceland who were absolutely magnificent, but let's face it, it should have been the equivalent of Arsenal against Doncaster, that's the (supposed) gulf in class between the two sets of players. Boy did we make it easy for them though.
What's a real shame is that those players are now scarred forever by the result and most of them are far too young to be burdened with that. There's some genuine talent there, talent I've not been excited by in an England team for quite a while, but there's just something wrong mentally when we get to a tournament. We made qualification look pathetically easy even against a very decent side like Switzerland. Hodgson's decisions certainly didn't help matters though.
I reckon a contributing factor is none of them play like they're enjoying it at all. whole England team play like they've been burdened with the 'curse' of football. It's like they don't really want to even be there. (except maybe for ratchford who has a bit of spark but wasn't allowed to properly demonstrate it)
Rooney is so lacklustre he might as well be made of cardboard

Perhaps the problem is we're not paying them enough.

He did say in 90 minutes, and we beat Spain with penalties.

To (sort of) steer this thread back towards its original topic, I'm still basking in being top of the league
B-) but....
...Iceland?
hahahaha
