wonder if clivey got his c5 engines made there :)

pc world / west cross was errr quite modern.. workmate was gutted he didn't buy up load of roland music gear when they were there, as prices for 303 / 808 / 909 went mental. he was offered them at like £30-60 etc.

  • Ah yes, you are right. Bad memory. I think the PC world / estate kept the fencing wall and gate. But yes the buildings were modern. Its been awhile since I was down that way.

    Sod it!

  • I think the PC World site used to be a tyre factory and certainly the gates are still there.
The Tesco in the Hoover building is actually quite small which seems odd considering the size of the building.
But it's a good example of Art Deco building.

Vanguard currently have a Tardis on the roof. The tanks and planes are part of the owners collection. They just put something different on the roof every now and then. From first hand experience, that area is really grim to work in.

Have to go to the Tesco by Sky and PC World tomorrow. Mrs S prefers that one!

  • Grim? the whole area or just by Vanguard?.
I always liked working in the area. It never felt terrible. Its busy and noisy, but I still liked it their. However the journey go too much for me over the years so I had to look elsewhere when we went bust.

Although Brentford was a rough town, it felt comfortable, but then I grew up in Mitcham, which was a lot rougher and became quite grim by the time I left there.

And this is exactly why we can't let the site die :)

Indeed, imagine the damage caused if you lot were just released straight into the community... ;)

  • I only know the road behind Vangaurd as I used to work for a company that used a building owned by them. Behind two sets of gates. Blink and you'll miss them. The bloke who runs the company described it as a compound which unsettled me somewhat.
But the Vangaurd folks were nice, I asked the family member who runs the place about the things on the roof, which is how I know about them.

Grim as in there weren't any shops to get lunch, nowhere to go for a walk etc.
But as the 'compound' was fairly large, there was no reason to go anywhere else according to the one who must be obeyed.

The other end, PC World and Sky end, is better but never worked there. Brentford I have and know well and yes it's a bit rough but as its by the river, expensive flats have been built. I lived there when I first came back to London for a few weeks and eventually met Mrs S through working for a company there. She still works for the same company.

We're now thinking and talking about leaving London for good.
