PC Internet connection

Over the last few days i've noticed a problem with my internet connection, i notice that if put the PC into 'sleep' mode when i switch it back on my internet connection is gone, a troubleshoot test showed that 'there may be a problem with the LAN adaptor' so i found a spare ethernet cable and changed it but the same thing happened. If i restart the PC my connection is back. The router showed no problems and as far as it was concerned the PC was connected to wondering if it may be a software issue? Any ideas?

  • Phew could be several things there. Is there no network at all or is it just having trouble finding web pages?
    Sod it!

  • What make is your ethernet card? The Realtek ones have a deep sleep mode.
  • I get the little yellow triangle saying i have no internet connection. I can't get anything.
And yes, the ethernet card is a Realtek model.

  • Hi, if you Google 'realtek network card deep sleep mode' there seems to be quite a lot of discussions, and apparent solutions. Good luck.
  • I have the same with my laptop. Close the lid, when I open it again no network. Have to restart.

My workaround is not to close the lid. :P

...So if you find a solution, let me know as I'm too lazy to look...
  • You can try to deactivate (or reduce) energy saving on the ethernet controller. Go to Device Manager, select Properties on your network device and then go to Energy tab. Try to disable the first option (Allow the computer shut down the device... I'm spaniard and I don't know how is written on your computer).

Also, there are a tab called Advanced Options, that show some properties that can vary from device to device. I've got a Realtek network card, and there are some options related to energy saving (I've seen those options with different names on Intel adapters, so the options on your computer can be different).

If everything else fails, check if there is an update for your driver. I had some (branded) computers that didn't dropped ethernet randomly with their drivers, but after getting an updated driver from the network card chipset manufacturer (i.e.: Intel driver instead of HP) they worked well.

BTW, NEVER trust in any "updated" driver downloaded through Windows update. Use only your manufacturer drivers or chipset manufacturer driver.
    I was there, too
An' you know what they said?
Well, some of it was true!
