He left messages to me sometime before the site went down, but they are lost, I am certain it wasn't 4 years ago, when did things change to what WOS is now ? I am sure it can't have been more than a year ago.
I've been a regular on here for about 3 and a half years and I'm sure he's posted in that time.
Ah, here we go. Was posting regularly in 2013, last popped up January 2015 in the saucer thread.
I guess if there's any likelihood of WoS or the forum slipping away, it might be worth us all swapping the addresses and phone numbers of the nursing/old people's homes that we're going to be residing in shortly so we can all keep in touch.
I am not sure any of those places would have me, you might have to try the Mental Hospitals instead.
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........

I didn't think you could get a telephone line or broadband connection to a grave in a cemetery...

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb!
Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year :)
Digital Prawn! Haven't see you here in a good while either. Welcome back! :)
Thank you, nice to see you GreenCard. I'm afraid my posts will still be exceedingly rare due to so much going on in real life.
Truth is I was off work yesterday, waiting for a delivery. They gave me times of 9am to 6pm. The guy actually turned up at 6:05pm in the end - so a lot of needless waiting in during which I would naturally gravitate to the computer to pass the time!
Sadly the nearest I have been to bona fide speccy activity in the last few years is watching a few YouTube videos of games being completed - most recently Blizzard Pass - I know now that I would never have completed that one on my own. :)

Yeah you could. You just need lots and lots of deliveries to wait in for... :))

I would actually enjoy it too - if only I could live in that cottage as featured on the final screen of Blizzard Pass - my perfect home. Which sadly to my knowledge does not exist in real life, unless a hardcore Blizzard Pass fan actually built it, including getting the same curtains as featured in the game - naturally. :)

Aye, you too Digital Prawn. It's been really nice seeing a few old names popping back up recently. :)
Hehe! Like 1024MAK says, you just need more deliveries to wait in for. Massive spending spree is in order, methinks. ;)
Yes, Digital Prawn! Nice to hear something from you again. :)
Thank you Timmy, always nice to hear from old Spec-chums again. :)
Only wish I had some speccy stuff achieved to show for all the time away. Maybe in the distant future I can get back in to the hobby again like an old comfy pair of slippers. :D
Nice to see you around, Digital Prawn! We want more Sid Spanners!!! :)
Preferably a Sid Spanners in multicolor :)
Well Einar, your multicolour engines are technical masterpieces and from what I gather need less RAM than SP1 which I had used previously. I would love to have a go at such a game. Now is not the right time for me due to various commitments, but if I ever do get some time back again in the future, I would very much to have a tinker with these newer engines. The whole scene has moved on to a different level since I was last dabbling, and I would have to find my coding gloves again. :D
Hails - an old face here (no, not that icon on the left) who some of you from 10 years ago may recognise.
I've signed in here for the first time in ages as I've had a sudden flurry of activity on the Spectrum front these last six weeks or so, giving Daren a lot of extra work throwing RZXs of cheap and nasty games at him that Argus Press Software tried to bury, and also a few others that were given reasonable ratings. So, the news that has greeted me here is somewhat troubling.
For what it's worth, I've always seen the Spectrum "scene" (disclaimer: that is a word I detest, but I can't think of a suitable alternative) as different from that of other 80s computers because of WOS - and the manic dedication to archiving the Spectrum software in its original, unmolested form. Think of any other machine of the time - Amstrad, C64 (and less successful Commodore machines), Atari ST, Amiga, the MSX family - any sites I can think of concerning those might have a WOS-style database but any attempt at software preservation has begun and ended with hacked and cracked tapes and discs run by nefarious underground types; WOS has been the only one to "keep it real" as it were. It would be nothing short of a catastrophe if all Martijn's work over however many years it was (11, 12, 13?) was lost - especially with the database still expanding.
Just as a random point, I know one of the journalists at the Nottingham Post who was trying to interview people involved with the Spectrum "scene" (ugh, again) when news of the Vega broke, and though I wasn't available at the time - and hadn't really been part of the WOS forums since about 2005-06 or so, I advised her to have a word with Jonathan Cauldwell, and with Lee, seeing as I know they both live locally (or did, the last time I checked). I knew there was a bit of drama going on here even then, and I'd hope it didn't stir anything up.
All I can hope now is that *someone* turns up *something* - I've been looking at and linking to a lot of WOS pages recently and I'd hate to think that, sometime in early September, they'll be blank.
While we're here - who is it that hosts that archive at wos.meulie.net and is that under threat as well? The magazine archive is one of the parts of the preservation effort that I find particularly useful.
I do recall him telling me he was ill for a while, as he'd vanished for a time. i'll drop an email and see if i get a reply. but as already stated time had flown.

Yes that's right, spend the pounds now while they are still worth something. :D

Thank you Einar, good to see everyone still rocking it on the speccy scene. :)

Thanks, I can't please everybody all of the time, so as a compromise I will be changing my username to "Curried Spanners". :)
