Thanks for this ZX1 Wes Montgomery was one of the coolest jazzers around, and nice to hear one of Britains finest jazz pianists, Stan Tracey in the same clip, nice find. :)

This wasn't the BBC though but ABC an independant commercial company. The BBC stuff was usually shown on a program called Jazz 625.

    NIIICCCEEEE!

I'm quite a fan of the Great Wes Montgomery and have several of his CD's. It's a real shame he died of a heart attack at the young age of 45 in 1968, i'm sure had he lived he would have went on to greater things.
If you watch the clip closely, watch the drummer, he seems obsessed by the guy playing the stand up bass. Very odd.

A great jazz guitarist indeed who adopted a quiet thumb style of playing as a youth so as not to pizz of the next door neighbour.

Nothing too strange about the rhythm sections drummer gazing at the bassist. Rick Laird (bass) and Jackie Dougan (drums) were part of Ronnie Scotts varying line-ups so were familiar with each others playing and in a situation where the drummer cannot hear the acoustic bass over the other instruments or may not be familiar with the piece then he will tend to look at the bass players fingering (OOER MISSUS) and feel the rhythm rather than hear it and drum accordingly.

  • Lalo Schifrin made the soundtrack for 'Bullit', starring Steve McQueen. The usual 60's & 70's police film. One of the songs I love:

In 1997 Ford made an advert using this song, really good:

    They should all be shot...

I'm assuming where they're from the honourable thing to do is "draw".....

Although that second one is the Brokeback Mountain all these really "manly" hicks don't want you all to know about :))
