I was slightly split between the two. Being from south London / Surrey I say Scone (own, which was my vote.) However I grew up with my slightly northern mum always saying 'Scon'
It's pronounced scon. Anyone who pronounces it "scowne" with a long O should have their vocal chords surgically removed with a rusty pickle fork.
The "What's the fastest food in the world? Scone" joke just doesn't work if you pronounce it Skieauyowne, like you're the inbred second cousin of the 13th Earl of Droitwich.
Same goes for people who pronounce gif "jif". I don't care that the inventor of the gif pronounces it with a J and wants us all to do the same, he's completely wronj.

Only uneducated northerners (joke) should pronounce it Scon. Its scone, alwight? :)

If no-one had mentioned this, this would have been my post. Clearly this joke is the best defence to scone/gone and I wonder if it wasn't made up for the entire purpose of clarifying the correct pronunciation.
Clotted cream and jam in mine please, and I don't mind raisins in them either.

Sorry, but that is another argument. Jam and cream, not cream and jam. ;)
Hhhm I'm at a loss now. My missus was born in Leeds, spent quite a while in London and moved to The Midlands when she was about 12 and she says SCON. I was born in Shropshire, but, have spent most of my life in South Staffs and Wolverhampton and I say SCONE!!! Do shandy drinking southerners say SCONE and coal eating Northerners say SCON????
What the heck, when you go and order one, earwig what the waiteress/waiter calls it to another customer and deliberately order the other pronounciation. :))
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........

As a coal eater it's always been scone as in phone for me.
Only a slightly different tack I had you down as a northerner due to your handle being stupidGET (northern pronunciation) opposed to stupidGIT (southern pronunciation) but with a missus from Leeds it now makes sense.

If it's not too rude were abouts in Leeds?
Rather embarrassingly I have no idea where in Leeds she lived :-O
The reason I have stupidGET rather than GIT is because in the early 90's me and my mates were massive fans of Vic Reeves Big Night Out. I also had it as my email address on my CV and for some reason I thought it was better to have GET rather than GIT!!!! Funnily enough I didn't get many job offers to that email address :-)
And on the whole jam/clotted cream/clotted cream/jam debacle then it's obviously, clotted cream first and then jam. You use the cream as a butter substitute. You wouldn't put jam on a sandwich and then butter. If you do then you're clearly a jizz-warbling f**k-nugget!!!! :D

Grr, jizz youself you stupidgIt. :)):))
Phew that was close. I'm using my phone and I tried to put in the emotes from the keyboard and ended up with none. It looked like I was being serious. Thankful for edit.
Na, I'm allowed emotes, I don't use Apples ;)
Actually I think the browsers textbox put in the actual icons which obviously got filtered out, possibly by the server's code.
