Surprised to see someone mention Carry on Cowboy as a favourite. It looked shockingly bad so I turned it off after 5 minutes, maybe I need to give it another go.

Innuendo and seaside comedy are now so un-PC that any modern Carry on film would be out of the question. That's why stand up comedians can only talk about themselves now and what they get up to, etc. :p

I honestly don't know any stand up comedian that I find even remotely funny, perhaps I have lost my sense of humour, or perhaps running backwards and forwards or talking with a funny voice and pulling faces is only funny to everyone else, If I am channel hopping and I see a comedian, I quickly pass up to another channel, they annoy the Tats off of me !

Sounds like you're talking about Michael McIntyre and Lee Evans:smile:

What's funny about that statement, is that I have only heared of one of those and have never even watched the one I have heard of, his voice would make me turn over in half a second !

The thing about Carry on Humour was that it was the art of laughing at yourself as a person behind a character, and asking the audience to laugh AT you as well, without offending others who shared your persuasions, traits, etc. Today the writers would be too scared of offending anyone with a fake accent, made up skin tone, costume, action, there would be nowhere to go for them. Even a slapstick scene would be cut out in case it implied that it was ok to hit someone round the head with a 20 foot plank, in case anyone had a plank of the same length, may try it.

  • For me it would have to be:

    1 - Carry on Abroad
    2 - Carry on Camping
    3 - Carry on Behind
    4 - Carry on Girls
5 - Carry on at your own convenience
    Sausages is more important

I'd say Carry on Emmauelle is probably the worst, it's just an endless parade of nude scenes with no meaning. Even Kenneth Williams looks embarrassed to be in it. By then the cast were all getting a bit past it.

  • For me the list goes:

    1. Screaming
    2. Spying
    3. Khyber
    4. Cruising
    5. Constable

But I also like Cleo, Nurse (mines a pint), Doctor (nooky), Cowboy.

    Oh it's so difficult.
    Sod it!
