    2016 Games List (February 3, 2016):

Well, February 2016 already and it is time to do the first episode of the Games List 2016!

I am probably missing some games, and I'm still contemplating about some games too. But I don't want to waste any more time for now, and I can always update the list in a following post. Please let me know if I missed some. Thanks in advance. :)

    =================================

    News and Links

    * Games List on Twitter
I'm trying out to put the List on Twitter too. It's faster to just update one game instead, and I can add in screenshots too!

    * Scripting add-ons for WoS Forums and Infoseek
I really recommend you to install some (temporary) scripts to make your stay of WoS more comfortable. It's 2015, add-ons and scripting should be almost default now for any good web experience. The scripts fix the problems with images in Infoseek as well as improving the looks of the forums.

    *The Spectrum Show Ep 48
I can heartily recommend this show, all the episodes too.

    *Knight Lore disassembly
I just wanted to post here for my future reference. It might be useful for others too.
Perhaps I should make a list of the disassemblies somewhere but I don't have time right now.
Thread also contains other disassemblies too.

Wait, I found a link with disassemblies:

Time for a new update. A lot of new games have been added again.

Note: Links for new games use a different format, due to link format changes at WoS.

This is a "quick" update, so if I'm missing something please let me know.

    Just a short notice:

I'm not dead, but I have been very busy lately.

An update will be soon after I catched up on my Twitter feed, then I will copy the links from there into a new post.

I have the feeling that should be complete now, except the Kanga and the games Gab has released today (which I still need to play it before adding any of them.) EDIT: If you think I'm missing something there, let me know and I can add it there and in this list.

Also after I released another mini game, which is almost finished, and will be released this week. Actually, hopefully today or tomorrow, but I'll wait a bit after Gab's games. :)

  • 2016 Games List (June 17, 2016):

This is an intermediate update, so that I can synchronize between this one and my Twitter account.
This list is up to date until sometime in April, sounds not enough but there are 9 new games added for now.
Hope to make a new update soon.

Note: Links for new games use a different format, due to link format changes at WoS.

This is a "quick" update, so if I'm missing something please let me know.

I will try to update the list asap, hopefully tonight. Currently a little bit busy. :)
  • Tourmaline needs to be on the list too, my favourite game of 2016 so far!

I'd like to see Lime Rick on the list. It looks promising.

EDIT: D'oh. Sorry. This is just for released games isn't it? Still, I look forward to this one making an appearance.

  • Yeah, I'd like to see Lime Rick in too, but I really need a release (demo or otherwise) before that can happen...

Sorry, I've been so busy today I just arrived home, completely tired... I could probably get in bed and sleep right now, and do the house chores tomorrow...

Sorry, so, so busy today :(

It's now called "Snake Escape". A demo version was released a while ago:

It will be released very soon. I'm just waiting for some last graphic adjusts from BiNMaN :)

Just a very large update! Over 10 games and some demos have been added.
I might missed some games but at least a lot has been added now.
Lemme know if I missed something.

PS. I just forgot I forgot my own game :)

    That's all folks!
  • 2016 Games List (September 18, 2016):

    Yay, a new List update!

I've been too busy lately, and fortunately it was a quiet month... :)

PS. And I need to put my own game in the list too, someday :)
    [Link]

Note: Links for new games use a different format, due to link format changes at WoS.

    =================================

    News and Links

    * Games List on Twitter

I can't say. I never understand what MIA meant. Also I don't speak Spanish.
This one I put in here because I was not sure.
I think it was written 30 years ago but found today (but I don't know for sure). I can't say which year it was released.
There are two versions of Empire. One made by AA, the other by Battle Bunny
I think they are exact the same game.

I also intentionally don't track new versions of the same game for new games, because new versions are 99% updates/bugfixes of older versions. If I do that I would have 99 versions of some games on this List and it won't be readable any more. Release date will be defined as the first released version.

*unless in special cases, of course.
  • Ok. I'm not sure Empire are the same though, one is made in C, the other one in Sinclair Basic
  • MIA = missing in action.
A game (or product) that has been announce or mentioned in a magazine, photos published, adverts printed. However the game was never released due to company closing down, game never written, game started but never finished, game written and finished but never released, game released but not (yet) been found.
I am from that generation, when Pluto was still a planet, and the Earth is round.

The WoS archive makes a distinction:

    * Games never written, never finished or never released are classified as "Never released"

    * Games released but not (yet) found/preserved are classified as "MIA"

    * Moreover, games never officially released but later found/preserved are classified as "Never released- recovered"

According to WoS convention, these are 2 completely different entries, since they are separate conversions of the same original game.

Just like different implementations of Pac-man by different authors are also separate entries.

Agreed! Unless they are significantly different releases such as The Dark.

Well, I thought they were working together for one version, but I haven't followed the thread. I will have to look at them later then.

WoS conventions have multiple ways to name similar games. I will need to look them up myself before I make my decision. It's likely to be 2 entries but I'd rather have a look at them first.

For this game I'm currently using "recovered" because I can't find any evidence of it was released back in the day. I've read the link but it doesn't give much evidence, but maybe because my Spanish is not very good.

This is not the WoS definition, because in that case I'd probably used "unsure" instead.

They are 2 different ports, by different authors, using different programming languages, of a TRS80 BASIC game. Therefore 2 different entries.

"Exterminator" was released in Spain by Microbyte. The link even contains a photo of the released tape, that's a good evidence.

Apparently it was never released in UK due to contractual exclusivity constraints.

The definitions I posted are exactly the WoS definitions!

There have always been many ways to cover similar games, for example: Mods, Same game with different version, Different entries, Different entries with different names. You may not care about these different ways, but that's really not my problem.

Are you suggesting I should not read the thread myself first? I can make up my mind very well, even if it takes some time.

You sound very impatient. I've spent the whole day replying comments I won't have time to read anything else today.

I've reread the article twice now, and I think I'm convinced of it actually have been published.

I will drop it out of this list (in a next update), because it's not published in 2016.

You misinterpreted that sentence. "This" in that sentence did not refer to the definitions you posted. It refers to my naming of the itme being "recovered". "recovered" is not a WoS definition, it would probably be "never released - recovered." But I was unsure if it happened. Currently I'd categorise the game as "released and recovered".

Yes, I care very much about these differences. For converting the WoS archive into ZXDB, I'm spending a lot of effort to ensure not even a single detail is lost.

My point is, the criteria to decide if they are different entries doesn't depend on the criteria to decide if each entry is a mod.

I will need to look them up myself before I make my decision. It's likely to be 2 entries but I'd rather have a look at them first.

They are 2 different ports, by different authors, using different programming languages, of a TRS80 BASIC game. Therefore 2 different entries.
Are you suggesting I should not read the thread myself first? I can make up my mind very well, even if it takes some time.

You sound very impatient. I've spent the whole day replying comments I won't have time to read anything else today.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hurry you up. My intention was just to help clarify the WoS archive criteria for classifying games. I thought you needed these explanations, because you originally wrote "I never understand what MIA meant", and after I explained it, you replied "This is not the WoS definition".

Again I was just trying to help... My apologies if it got you upset!
