Does anyone know what happened to this game?

It was written by John Heap who did The Great Escape and Where Time Stood Still. And given that those are held in such high regard, and from the sound of this Crash review (they must have got a pre-release version?), it could have been a very good game indeed:

And bearing in mind that John Heap wrote and released 16-bit versions of the game, the Crash reviewers could have got most of the game detail from one of those and winged it in the hope the Speccy version to come would be almost the same.
This was from the final months of Crash when journalistic integrity was becoming a forgotten aspiration....
