    If it hits £30 on Amazon I'm going to have to click buy!

    Guessing the bottom of the market, eh? :) Don't leave it too late. There's only a finite stock, and I guess they won't be making any more.

    Shame, because I think the Recreated ZX Spectrum has an important place in the Spectrum scene. Real Spectrums are getting rarer, especially if you want a nice clean one. They are something of a maintenance headache, with their keyboard membranes and capacitor issues. They don't work with modern TVs without a hardware hack. We're reaching the point where owning and using a real Spectrum is becoming something of a niche for people who know how to maintain and fix them.

    Given a compatible emulator, the RZXS just works. No power supplies, no caps, no composite hack.[*] It provides a 100% authentic experience for those hankering for an original rubber keyboard model, and does so without any of the hassles of 35 year old hardware. It's a real shame they messed up the software side of their product; based on the hardware, it really deserved to succeed.

    [*] It occurred to me when I wrote that that I don't know how they've implemented the keyboard. Does it use a membrane? Come to think of it, it might. How else would they have done it? So maybe the membrane issues will still bother us a couple of years from now. :)

    No time like the present!
  • I have just found I can get the Recreated ZX Spectrum to work on my PC in full screen using the BlueStacks Android emulator and Spectacol. I prefer this to using Fuse for Windows and having to have a small window and no full screen.
  • The only problem is that android emulation will need at least 8gb ram?
    There is an android for pc out there.. dunnoif it would be easy to boot it from a pendrive.
    If I knew how to compile Fuse with SDL i'd publish the full screen version here

    I am not sure if it needs at least 8GB RAM. My computer does have 8 GB, so it might be a requirement. If someone knew how and was willing to compile the latest PC Fuse with full screen that would be the best solution of course.

    I'm going (to try) to compile it with msys (mingw) from my winxp. Watch this space

    Failing so far. I need to compile libspectrum before fuse.. but i get a "glib not found" error no matter what I've tried (installing glib, pkg-config, copying lib and include files of said packages on msys, etc)

    So what if I take the libspectrum binary available from the official win32 release and just compile fuse? It should suffice to go into fuse's src folder on msys console and type this:
    ./configure --with-sdl
    make

    I've read these two references.
    Fuse on full screen for Rpi
    preparing to use PKG-CONFIG

    @guesser said that compiling fuse with msys2 is easier but seems to allow only win64

  • Hikoki, try building libspectrum with:
    ./configure --disable-static --with-fake-glib
    followed by
    make
    Thanked by 1hikoki

    There are two sets of scripts to launch the build environment, one for mingw32 and one for mingw64. I assume that if you have to 32 bit version installed then only the mingw32 stuff is installed.
  • I wish I could help but you might as well be speaking Greek! Keeping fingers crossed though...

    The process to compile Fuse on Windows is explained on Fuses's wiki: https://sourceforge.net/p/fuse-emulator/wiki/Home/

    Msys2 does not work on XP. The easier route seems to be win7+msys2+mingw. Sorry I don't have win7.
    I can try Msys on XP though. I had messed my Mingw installation so I uninstalled it yesterday. Mingw download server is not available at the moment. I'll try again tonight.

    Ah, I see. They dropped support in new versions just a couple of months ago.
    mingw+msys will definitely work, I just remember it taking more effort setting it up and getting all the extra libraries built working.
  • Ok. I've religiously followed the guide from fuse's wiki and all that remains to do is compiling sdl before the final mother of all compilings. Which params should be used to configure sdl? Would it work something like this?
    $ cd SDL-1.2.15/
    $ ./configure --disable-static
    $ make
    $ make install-strip
    $ cd ..

    I have managed to compile fuse with mingw+msys on winxp.
    The exe is just 65kb and runs Fuse without menus.
    One has to press F1 to see the options, there is an option for full screen which seems to work. Contact me by pm. It costs 0.99£

    I haven't released my fuse-sdl binary yet because saving png is disabled as I didn't manage to compile libpng. I've written down a few things to try later and also asked some expert for help. Stay tuned and keep the hype high...

    @Klepto
    See if this works for you. Untested. Special thanks go to @serbalgi

    Oh, thanks for your hard work. If I get time today I will try it out.
  • I can confirm that this works very well. Many thanks to hikoki and serbalgi. Just one thing, I am probably missing it, but is there an option to reset the emulation? I couldn't find it and had to close Fuse and re-open every time. Awesome stuff though! The best way to use the Recreated ZX Spectrum!
  • Should just be F1->M (for Machine menu)->R (for reset option), you can use arrow keys to navigate the menus too

    @Klepto enjoy and feel free to send me a recreated spectrum ha! It's good to know it works fine on modern windows too.
    How could I launch the emulator on full screen, model +2 and acb stereo by default?

    If I had the money I would you send you one. I think you deserve one! After the mess Elite made of the software for it, it is good to see you and others provide a way to use it properly. Now I just need to get an original copy of Battlecars (loved this back in the day), with the key overlay...

  • Brilliant. Thanks for that . I ordered one .

    Yes and there are some other Speccy items "on the horizon" that I hope "come up" at similar prices . Even I do not have the courage to say what they are though! .( But I am sure you can guess) . Please let me know when it comes up at £29.99!

  • OK no more jokes like that!

    But is it correct to say that Mike Ashley (Sports Direct) has taken out a minority stake in Game (Have I got this right?)? Is the radical discounting associated with this one some other factor? Is there any further light to be shed on this aspect?
