ZX-Paintbrush and ULAplus

Anyone used it to draw ULAplus graphics.

I just can't get my head around how to use the CLUTs, I can edit the colours but I only seem to be able to use the colours from CLUT 0. When I select colours from either CLUT 1, 2 or 3 nothing appears to happen it still uses the colours from CLUT 0.

I use this program for all my graphic need which has so far just been standard colours in 8x8, 8x2 and 8x1 attribute modes. I need to use ULAplus with 8x1 attributes for a new project.

  • Never used the feature before, but maybe the colors are set to defaults from CLUT 0 to start with?. Maybe the user has to select a palette before you begin drawing?... Would it help to import an image first, just to see if it changes the palette?... At work now, so can't test, but I vaguely recall a palette file included there, for half bright colour tones, so I know that palette colour changes can be done and saved under the CLUT categories...

    Anyone else any tips?...

  • I can load a ULAplus'ed picture, I can edit all 4 CLUTs, I've loaded a palette, again edited all 4 CLUTs

    but I still can only draw using colours from CLUT 0, I'm sure I'm missing something but I can't find anything to instruct in the correct usage

    which it doesn't really need seeing as ULAplus uses the BRIGHT and FLASH bits to generate the additional colours, so in essence all your doing is drawing BRIGHT and FLASHing graphics except that you get additional colours

  • so what happens if you enable bright or flash when drawing?
  • you can't enable bright or flash, that option is taken away and you have cluts 0 to 3

    if I draw in standard ULA, then load ULAplus the colours are correct to the clut they would be in (ie if I've drawn bright or flash they have colours now) but as soon as I start to draw it only takes colours from clut 0

    I did have it working briefly (uninstalled made sure I had the latest copy, reinstalled) all the cluts worked then it stopped again

    I've been conversing with Klaus via facebook, I videoed what happens it's easier than trying to describe it
  • I had similar problems, I gave up trying to use ZX Paint for ULA+ projects, just did them in standard ULA colours then drag and drop the .scr file into a ULA+ palate enabled emulator to check the results.

    Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or my version of ZXP is out of date?
  • there seems to be a little bug, it works on Klaus's dev machine but not on any other pc so hopefully he will track it down
