  • How did I miss this?! Great work Tom. Loved Highway Encounter back in the days. And this one looks fantastic!

    Looks bad, really bad....
You get a promo code for the platform of your choice if you explain why it looks "really bad" :)

Well the only inspiration from Highway encounter and Vortex literally seem to be the word "Encounter" in the title? I suppose when you say loosely based, you mean very, very, loosely?

Anyway From looking at it there's nothing wrong with the engine, and I guess my saying it looks really bad is I can tell from looking at it I just wouldn't play it. It looks like a game I know fine well I wouldn't like. I pretty much hate FPS games, there are a few exceptions, but not many. But first person games with swords annoy me to death, If you couldn't play games like Skyrim in 3rd person I'd never have played them. Another reason I don't like it cartoony undead things, infact cartoony everything. If it was a platformer fair enough, and this is just me being picky here maybe, but I think comical looking big headed skeletons, zombies, creatures of the night, etc, just don't look good in 3D. No matter how much comical personality you invoke, infact sometimes this just makes it even more annoying.

So like I say it looks like a game that I would find really bad.

Who knows maybe I'm wrong? But I'm probably not....

  • It's one of those games that you'll either love or hate, in fact all the Vortex games are a bit like that - they need a certain level of effort to get anywhere, and if you don't get that spark to want to explore the games then you probably won't enjoy them much.

Personally I like them, not a huge fan of TLL but I really got into Cyclone, and Highway Encounter - although that would take a lot of effort to get through, Cyclone is quite short in comparison. TLL is just too difficult for me.
  • Thank you @dm_boozefreek for your comments. In fact, it's not "very" loosely based. Your character's primary mission in Necropolys Encounter is similar to that of the playing character in Alien Highway: carry (push, pull) an object (the Treasure Chest) from the first through the last zone of a predefined space. There are challenges and obstacles on the way (monsters to kill, traps to avoid, diamonds to collect, puzzles to solve) and you get a reward at the end, if you make it. The pumpkin gun is for self-defense purposes and it's your only weapon. When your character gets injured there is a healing time period instead of a power bar and recharging stations. The five red "injury" icons at the top of the HUD are similar to your character's lives in Highway Encounter. A Xmas update will enforce a time limit of 60 mins. Like in HE and AH, you need to spend time to master the game.

Anyway, I get it, you don't like FPS or cartoony 3D games. A friend of mine expressed his gaming preferences in more or less the same terms as you did, I understand and it's fine. Apparently, a few people in this forum got bored playing Highway Encounter. (e.g., users Graz and Bluce_Ree in this thread).

I promised you a promo code but, as you clearly indicated that you don't like NE, I am posting a few promo codes for whoever might "get that spark to want to explore" (hat tip to you, @andrewvanbeck). This is my last post to this thread so we can all of us resume our normal activities :)

  • Well thanks for not getting angry, I've had some encounters with devs in the past who get a little bit salty when you critique their projects.

...and as a gamer the last thing I want to do is discourage somebody who's taking the time and putting the effort into making new games, even if I don't like them. As I'm sure there's lots of people out there who will regardless of what I think :)

Even though I can tell it's not my cup of tea I'd be willing to try it, but the real problem there is, even if I liked the idea I realistically don't think I'll have the time to, to be honest. Or if I got the game it'd be on a long queue behind many others I've been trying to find the time to play for years :))
