Nice selection Maroc, but call me a philistine and shoot me, but is it wrong that I preferred Deathtrap Dungeons sequel book Trial of Champions?
It had more unfair deaths, but the atmosphere, and the illustrations were better.
...and to be honest the only reason I would put Warlock in my top 5 would be because it started the whole thing. I suppose if it'd been a flop there wouldn't be any of the books I liked. I still think in this day and age it's time to start basing videogames around these books. We've more than got the graphical capability to Bring Balthus Dire, Zanbar Bone, Razaak, Ishtra, Zharaddan Marr, the Snow Witch, The Lich Lord, Horfak, Naas the Dark Elf, The Zoalinth, The Bloodbeast, Shanzikuul, The Fire Demon from the Forest of Doom (remember not to put his crown on after killing him), The Miks, The Ganjees, The Khuddam Spawn, the 8 Mask wearing Golems, and all the other memorable villains, sorcerers, and monsters to life.
It actually annoys me a little bit that it hasn't been done yet!
Somewhere I have several aborted attempts at WOFTM as a text adventure in the style of the hobbit. Even had some extra orcs wandering the passageways. Sadly one version was on my now dead Archi.

Good points boozy! It is a shame there's been no new game based on the books following the rather mediocre PS1/PC game and the earlier 8-bit text adventure adaptations. A Witcher/Bloodborne engine in the FF world(s) would be pretty cool and might even tempt me into modern gaming :)
In terms of my top 5 books, WoFM is admittedly a bit of a romantic choice and more of a 'this is what started it all' rather than being properly deserved of a top 5 choice. I'd also consider Freeway Fighter and Space Assassin as a non-trad fantasy option and also Sword of the Samurai. For me, Trial of Champions is a worthy sequel to DD but I think I'd always pick the former for nostalgic reasons. There's no touching House of Hell for the top spot for me (the aborted Resi Evil 3.5 prototype look would be pretty ace if it was made into a game) .

1 Wonderboy 3: The Dragon's Trap
2 Fantasy Zone
3 Shinobi 3
4 Outrun
5 Phantasy Star
1: Panzer Dragoon Saga.
2: Shenmue.
3: Yakuza.
4: Shinobi.
5: Streets of Rage 2.
Beauty with this selection is I can cheat a little if like me you own Shenmue 1 and 2, you can play Outrun, Hang On, Space Harrier, and Afterburner in game. Bases covered for the classic "3D" Sega arcades I'd say ;)
Yakuza 5 even has a full version of Virtua Fighter 2 you can play at the arcades, although to be fair VF is a bit of a crappy series. Namco smashed them to pieces with Tekken, but they're still tryin', gotta give them their dues :))
Haha that reminds me I've had a copy of VF5 for years, and it's never even been inside my PS3 :))

For the last tune it was a hard toss up between Where is my mind, Gigantic (Although this choice ain't that hard thanks to that Apple ad poisoning it), Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons, Broken Face, Something against you, The Sad Punk, ahhh there's too many good ones :))
1. Forbidden Planet (not really a b-movie but in the same vein)
2. They cam from outer space.
3. This Island Earth.
4. Day the earth stood still.
5. The Blob.
Heh!
Reminds me of a ski trip I went on as a teenager - our Swiss instructor was called Herve, and all the lasses swooned over him. We called him "Erve the Swerve" (it's a silent H, geddit?)
I wonder if it's a rule that all guys called Herve have to have chiselled good looks? ;)
