I'd love to say only the good die young, but back then that guy probably had no idea what an evil death machine the company would become. Or who knows maybe he did I'm sure back in 67' the burgers were loaded with chemicals, and arseholes and toenail clippings, even more so than today with the lack of food standards. Anything to save a penny or 3.
Anyway R.I.P. Jim....You didn't know you'd be responsible for the crutch that morbidly obese people use to get free money...
RIP Andrew Sachs.
I still love Fawlty Towers too and Manuel was a fantastically written and realised character.
A lot of stuff from the 70s and 80s which used ethnicity for comedic affect has aged really badly. On the lower end of the scale is stuff that was very much of its time and wouldn't be considered in these enlightened times, While at the other end of the scale is stuff that was and is downright racist.
But Manuel, despite being a caricature, still feels genuine and was a warm-hearted, much-loved character, brilliantly acted.
I didn't realise he was that old when he played Manuel, being in his mid-forties when Fawlty Towers started. He really went through the mill with that programme. Slapped, poked and thrown around by John Cleese, who could have killed him when he picked up the wrong prop and smashed him around the head with a real frying pan. Then he suffered bad burns from the chemicals applied to his costume during the fire in The Germans.
Just read that Prunella Scales (who played Sybil) is also seriously ill with dementia and is now suffering severe memory loss. This has been a terrible year.

THE OPPRESSED 1981 / 2016......................................
Sad to announce that that due to health problems I'm having to retire the band. I've had 35 fantastic years but now the time has come to call it a day. Big CHEERS to everyone involved from members old and new, to bands we've played with, and of course to all our fans who kept us alive for all these years.
Thanks for the memories................................................
Roddy Moreno.

I'll be honest I thought the Oppressed would never split up :O
well tbh they have split up before a couple of times, but i suppose Roddys getting on now after 35 years of the band, really hope his healths not really on the slide :(

Brucie's death's been on the "cards" for years....badoom tish!
I seriously wonder now though if when he dies people are going to pour out of their houses all over the UK and there's going to be parties in the streets because it's finally happened?
Wonder if anybody will win a huge amount of money from William Hill, or Ladbrokes, or Done Bookmakers because they got the day right?
RIP Grouty. I honestly thought he had died years ago - got a shock when I saw him in Game Of Thrones.
I never noticed when watching it but read recently that Grouty and Mackay never actually meet on-screen in Porridge. The prison godfather who did whatever the hell he wanted wouldn't have worked with the strict disciplinarian.

Ummmm..... yes they did. Several times...
I'll have to re-watch them and find out for myself - it was only something I read about and the odd episode I catch once in a blue moon on Gold I don't ever recall them interacting.
The master of playing the villain in Porridge and being the sweetest person in Game Of Thrones. Thank you for entertaining us.

Well he wasn't in many episodes so whether it was deliberate or not its hard to say.

I think i'll dig out the Fawlty Towers DVD's. He really made that show. Really sad but 86 isn't bad.
