Well, the antibotics didn't work so I guess the wisdom tooth will have to come out, that'll be fun.
I phoned the dentist and made an appointment for January 4th. Starting to worry already, this is going to be really painful.
It'll probably be much less of a big deal than you're thinking. I had a wisdom tooth out a few years ago, and I kid you not, it was less hassle than a filling. The dentist gets a small tool and uses it to lever the tooth sideways. There's a cracking sound as it breaks the seal in the bone, then he gives it a wriggle and it comes out. Mine took 5 seconds, tops, and the anesthetic injection was by far the worst bit.
I thought they would have to dig it out because it hasn't grown through properly and the root goes deep into the jaw bone.
Actually the discomfort at the back of my jaw has went away, perhaps the antibiotics worked? I'll give it a few days and see how i get on.
Well the roots of all teeth go deep into the bone! The question is how well anchored it is in there, and the answer is "nowhere near as well as you might think."
The dentist might have to cut the gum if the crown of the tooth is below the gum line in order to get to the tooth, but given the bloody great hole that's going to be in the gum when the tooth has gone that really makes little difference.
What people tend to think of when they consider wisdom tooth extraction is impacted wisdom teeth, which is when the wisdom teeth grow under the other teeth. Then the buggers need to be dug out. I once had a petite girlfriend whose jaw was too small for all the teeth that were growing in it, and she needed all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. She was not a happy bunny. But my wisdom tooth came out ridiculously easily and yours will hopefully be the same. :)
BTW I'm not a dentist, but I have a serious phobia and I'm absolutely terrified of them, which led to years of neglect, which in turn led to more than my fair share of dental treatment. I've learnt to calm my phobia by gaining an understanding of what's involved with all the treatment I've needed. So what do I know? :)
Well, I can't leave it, I would love to but it'll just cause more damage and more work. I'm hoping it's quick and I can get out of there and go home and cry :))
I do worry that dentists are like mechanics in so much as they have a vested financial interest in our mouths and so all of the scraping and prodding they do is designed to have you back for something way more expensive in 6 to 12 months.
I shouldn't be such a cynic, but that's the way I feel.
Well, i'm back now. The dentist can't remove it. The wisdom tooth is away at the back but because my mouth is so small he can't get to it. I also retched when he tried to insert the gum shield to do the x-ray so it wasn't going to happen.
He's referred me to an oral surgery in Glasgow that has more specialised equipment and i can also be sedated if required but he did say they have a long waiting list so will just have to wait for them to get in touch. He said the infection will not get any worse but to contact them if anything does happen.
So will now just have to wait for them to get in touch.

Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year :)

I've been going to City Centre Dental care (McCarte and Swan) for years. I can't recommend them highly enough. They're on Douglas Street
I phoned the clinic today as the pain is getting a bit worse and they had a cancellation for tomorrow. So i'll be going tomorrow at 2.30. The work expect me to go straight back, the only place i'll be going is home.
Stocked up on soups and other soft foods cos solids will be off the menu for a few days, or weeks.
That's me back now. The injection was very painful but the actual extraction only took about 45 seconds. Now sitting with a slightly numb mouth, might be sore for a few days. Can feel the first jabs of pain starting.
On another note, the whole clinic was full of female dentists, not a guy in sight and they were all really nice! Also, i was only charged £25, not bad for an x-ray and tooth yanked out.
Put it under your pillow, the tooth fairy is paying a going rate of £25 a tooth nowadays, I put my pair of false teeth under my pillow and made hundreds and I only paid £1 in a charity shop for them ! ;)
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........

Well they should be in good condition, he leaves them in a glass of sterilising liquid every night!

Hope it turns out well !
Don't think I'm going to last that long without having more severe problems. Think I might have to go private
