More Christmas Wooden Telly Action with Cracker Jack:
I have many memories of having this on in the background, on the run up to Chistmas. I think my parents put it on because they considered it something kids liked 'defacto'. It was allright, but I never considered it so outstanding TV that I had to watch every bit of it.
It's funny though as this seems to be filed in the part of my brain that remembers Christmases pre 1985, along with Pantomimes, Coloured Tinsel, and making things out of cardboard and paper with my sister.
Yes, I remember "Name That Tune" - it's surprising how many of the tunes they played I actually recognized, but I doubt this would survive a comeback these days.. "Yer, is it 'Bangarang' by Skrillex?"
I wonder whatever happened to my old Decca. Sharpest picture around at the time. Mind you, that was right after we stopped painting with our hands on the walls of the cave.
"It's 1977 and whilst all is going to plan on screen at the Eurovision Song Contest it's all got a bit stressful in the gallery..."
Wow, no wonder they could not hear him he spent the entire time shouting. It's like a bad manager that feels the best way to motivate his team in to working hard is to shout at them and f and blind his way though meetings.

I'm afraid that was early television management skills for you. To think I wanted to get into TV, would have loved to have worked for LWT back in the 80s.

I've often heard sound bytes that say radio and TV were very masculine dominated sectors. I could not imagine a woman f and blinding her way though the production.
Was the job 'randomly' arranging the piles of consonants and vowels so that they had a higher chance of spelling out a naughty word as they were selected by the contestants?
Was it doing her adding up and shouting the answers in to a little ear piece.
Why did you not choose to work with Carol. Provide a link to that thread if you know of its whereabouts.
It was an educational programme about literacy and numeracy in about 1990, I think I mentioned it in a thread about the BBC.
It was all presented in a Hitchikers guide to the galaxy type format with animations and such, but I can't remember what it was called. I was shown a pilot episode and asked to be involved, it looked great.

Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........
An older friend of mine had the uncut video on Beta Max around about the time :))
It was recorded off the telly, and I think some show played it one night at about 10:30, after the rumours of her boobage popping out on the uncut vid had been doing the rounds for a while.
I remember the Nutralia advert in the 90s, of the woman in the shower who lathered her nips, before they cut it. I was watching with the missus's and we both gaped and ask 'did you just see that'. From then on we always called it Nipalia.
We definately had several wooden tellys, because my uncle worked in TV repairs and would mend them or replace them when they broke - I recall the big valves they used to have.
When I think of some of the old series that I used to watch one of the things that always sticks in my memory are the opening credits. A good example is Bring 'Em Back Alive, an adventure series shown in the early 80s with a kind of Raiders of the Lost Ark setting. The credits have that well-worn formula of introducing each of the characters doing something cheesy and then looking at the camera, grinning and hamming it up. My favourite bit is around 0:45 when the hotel manager salutes at the viewer. It's great and very much of its time (like Lee Majors in the bath, Hannibal Smith in the Godzilla(?) suit etc) :)
I recall that, and another show like it called Tales of the Golden Monkey, don't think it ran very long.
