Through The Trap Door - Level 4 issues

edited February 2017 in Games
Hi, I got a problem lads regarding the sequel Trap Door game - Through The Trap Door and would like help.
First of all, is it possible one of you clever chaps out there could create a POKE where when you start a new game you start on level 4 as opposed to starting on level 1?!
It takes so much effort to pass level 3 even with an invincibility poke that the end result is usually me resetting the Spectrum out of pure frustration and anger,..and believe me I've spent hours overall when adding the time up on that level,...this leads to the second problem when I finally passed level 3.
The second issue is the invincibility poke on THE TIPSHOP site (53730,201), the problem with it is on level 4 when you need to destroy the skeleton and free Boni, the missiles needed to hit him also just pass through him because of the invincible poke making it impossible to finish the game.
So what I need is a "level 4" start poke if that's possible, and a fully working invincible poke where the missiles don't just pass through the skeleton but will kill him.
As all previous help on pokes I've been given, whoever gives me the pokes I need will get full mention on the video recording when I've uploaded it on my game channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ZEUSDAZ

Thanks for your time lads!!

Hi Zeus, here's the poke to start on any level you want:
    poke 34207,n

where n is level number to start from (1 to 4).

I'll try to find the other poke when not busy, maybe tomorrow. :)

  • Yep seen it but this was snapshotted on pc, I'm using real hardware so It's far tougher as I don't get endless chances.
Back to the original request please lads, I've done the first Trap Door without any poke help but this game is far too unfriendly without the pokes I've requested above :-/
That damn invincy poke on Tipshop fails on level 4 when you need to kill the skeleton.

That is brilliant mate, works like a charm!,...so now if I mess up I now no longer have to start right at the beginning of the bloody game every time! Brill bud! :-D
Yeah the invincy poke is too invincy because the missiles go straight through the Skeleton resulting in unable to kill him and complete the game :-(

    Hi Zeus.

I was lookin' for that poke this morning but, before start, i tried the invencibility poke in the "combat" with the skeleton. Well, maybe it works different in real hardware, but what i've seen in the emulator is that cannonballs hit and destroy the skeleton while invencibility poke still acts on Berk.

    Here's an unpoked snapshot:
    tttdoor.sna

And here's the same snapshot already poked:
    tttdoor_poked.sna

Maybe i've miss something and that's not what you're looking for. :(

Hi bud, that is REALLY bizarre, I've never seen any difference in action when it comes to using a multiface poke on both emulator (SpecEmu) or my 128k+1 toastrack on any game, I just don't get it, the snapshots you've shown are exactly what is supposed to happen whereas when I tried it on my real hardware over a year ago the cannon bullets just went through him instaed of killing him,...did you pick up any of the items before you tackled the skeleton, or did you just go straight for him?!...cuz you have to collect the sweets first and if you didn't do that maybe that's why the poke worked?!,...maybe picking up the sweets messes up the poke?!,...I'm just grabbing for straws here.
Maybe thanks to your starting level poke I will give it a go again on my real hardware in a few days, I will let you know, should I PM you through here or just post my findings on this feed?!
Do you have a poke to reverse the invincy poke?! Maybe when I get to the skeleton I can turn it off that way it may result in the cannon fire working correctly?!

    To reverse invencibility just:
    poke 53730,200

You can post your findings here, i'll check if there's any update in this post.

Hi Myrck, slight problem with the level select poke,...Drut is impossible to move, he is just stuck in the same place and you need to control him to help with the tasks, can you take a look into it mate :-)

Mmmmm... really strange behavior, Zeus. It happens just in both levels 3 and 4, but not in 1 and 2. I'll take a look later, 'coz i'm quite busy right now. I'll post my findings here, maybe tomorrow. Have a nice sunday you all WoS mates! ;)
  • Thanks bud, all the best!

Hi Myrck, any updated on the Drut levels 3 & 4 issue mate?! :-)
  • Sorry, Zeus, no progress; bit busy now. I'll post my findings here asap.

No problem mate, I'm sure you'll work it out :-)
  • I think you should man up and play it through without cheats! Everyone knows Don Priestley games are easy!
  • I think you should man up and play it through without cheats! Everyone knows Don Priestley games are easy!

Ha, you give it a go then, you'll find out when you reach level 3!,...one mistake and It's all over meaning replaying level 1 & 2 over and over and over again,...you will be off work with stress!
Nope I know what I need and I'm gonna hold out for "Myrck" to hopefully sort out the "non moving" issue with Drut when the level select poke has been inputted.
Besides I gotta game channel to keep on top of yer know, takes a lot of time and effort :-(
  • I never got past level 1! It's far too annoying. Not a patch on the brilliant first game.
  • Exactly! Now you can understand my need for the issue in hand :-(
Yep the first game was very good, I'll be giving that another go soon, got as far as the safe but ran out of time without cheats.
  • I never got very far but one of the tricks is to make the first meal but don't send it up yet. Now use the remaining time to start preparing the second meal only sending the first one up when the times running out.
  • Yeah that's how I played it,...always getting on with the upcoming tasks before they were asked from me but I still ran out of time, that bloody ghost never helped.
But going back to the sequel, I have to wait till Myrck can hopefully sort the poke issue out before I longplay it unemulated.
  • Hi Zeus.

Ok, let's try to explain this.... :-S

I've found that when you enter level 4, Berk carries Drut in his hands, so the game inmobilizes Drut to prevent the user from move it before Berk releases him. The error arises because that state (Berk with Drut in his hands) comes from the previous level, when both travel through the door to level 4. What happens if you jump from main menu just to level 4? Well, that way, Drut is on the floor inmobilized (it's supossed to be in Berk's hands), so neither you can move it, nor Berk can pick Drut in his hands. Hope you can get the idea behind the issue. I do my best with my poor english. :))

The workaround I've found is another poke to unlock Drut, but one you've to insert once level 4 is "loaded".

    So, you've to...

    1. Load TTTD
    2. On main menu, to start from level 4:
    poke 34207,4

    3. Start game
    4. Once level "is loaded" and both Berk and Drut are on screen...
    poke 45453,131

    ... to unlock Drut.

    Hope it works! ;)

Hi mate, yep I totally get what you've mentioned, certainly makes sense :-)
The poke works great to unlock Drut, any hope you could work out the unlock poke for level 3 too?!,...It's a real drag to keep repeating levels 1 & 2 even though they are easy, It's just time consuming to keep doing them just to practice on level 3 which in my opinion is the hardest level.
I'll let you know as soon as possible if the cannon issue on level 4 is sorted and the Skeleton can be killed, thanks a ton for your help, now I can understand why the first game is vastly popular than this sequel, It's just too difficult :-(

    Thanks again Myrck,
P.s, your English is fine ;-)

Could you make snapshots before completing the end of level 2 and 3? It would be easier then to find what's poked into memory by the game, at the end of completing a level. Then perhaps a level skip code could be written. So starting level 4, Berk should have Drut in his hands.

I'm guessing you're referring to an emulator?! I'm not too experienced in that field as I only use real hardware, in my case the 128k+1 toastrack, so making snapshots isn't possible.
I need to see if I can destroy that skeleton first on level 4 as last time I found the invincible poke on THE TIPSHOP site failed to work correctly, level 3 is a total bitch as there is much to do whilst dealing with tricky controls so I'm hoping "Myrck" can come up with the drut unlock poke on that level too.

  • What are you using to enter the pokes? Can that not create snapshots?
If you have a DIVMMC or Multiface you could take snapshots.
  • Yeah I'm using a multiface 128 on my toastrack, haven't looked that deep into it to see It's tricks, I just use it to input the pokes.
I just need to see if level 4 is passable with the invincy cheat before I tackle the rest of the game.
