Brand new cassette player...speccy?

Hi - Anyone know if this would work on a Spectrum?
AND
The USB ??? Could you maybe put Spectrum WAVs on it - and load them through it???

(Been having some cassette player issues... thought brand new might be a good way to go)

  • Having tried many options (with help from WoS members) I use Tap2Wav then playback the resulting file through VLC or similar via a stereo to mono 3.5mm lead from eBay.
  • Yer- I can load directly off my laptop - but I'm after a new cassette player for loading my actual tape collection. Looking into this a bit more - It seems the USB is for saving only - so people can back up old tapes... which I guess would be good for preserving Speccy games that hadn't been done yet??? Anyway... still not sure if this has the correct ear jack for loading to Speccy - tho guessing it has a normal headphone socket ?
  • It doesn't matter it's normal headphone jack. You just need stereo to mono socket adapter to send to the Speccy. As long as the tape player can output the signal loud enough.
  • Well yes it should work with Speccy fine, mentions in the details it has ear and mic sockets. I'm pretty sure these will be mono 3.5mm jack sockets, like found on many older cassette recorders of the Speccy's vintge. Also has AUX input, I would assume this is again a mono 3.5mm socket. A stereo to mono lead would be needed to connect laptop/pc/phone/mp3 player here, and I would assume the AUX function would work when the cassette deck was in record mode. As for the USB encoding function, it's a cheap mono cassette recorder so don't expect good quality stereo transfer's from cassette, expect a low bit rate mono mp3, like some DAB radio stations.

Overall it might be a good deck for Speccy, however being Argos's own Bush brand and good quality recorders no longer being made, it's build quality, how well it plays, and sound quality has me wondering. Argos does have a good returns policy though, no harm in giving it a try.
