Edit: Actually, Blegh! Hate the new 'feature' the YouTube app has - it tries to integrate everything with Social Media, and if you just choose the 'share' option to get the URL to link to the video, it now presents it with a bordered screen that says "[Your Name] shared this video".
Really wish it wouldn't do that.. I had to look the video up on the computer to get the 'usual' URL.
I hadn't clicked on the link, so I hadn't saw the price. £3,500 for the new C5 is way, way overpriced. First of all, it's too expensive anyway for what it is, and secondly, for it to be successful, enough people have to buy it to encourage others to do so, which just won't happen at that price. Thirdly, it looks so geeky and ugly that it needs an extra incentive for people to buy it, and the unreasonable price is just the opposite of that incentive.
IMHO - for an electric trike it is not a bad price. Compare it to some of the major German competitors in the same field e.g. HPVelotechnik: http://www.hpvelotechnik.com/produkte/scorpion_fs26_s-pedelec/index_e.html
Add a wind sheld frontage and you are already over 9,000 Euro. Other high end names (eg Hase) will be pushing towards 15,000 Euro.
The problem I see with the IRIS E-trike is that the demand for these type of bikes is very limited and far from a mass market proposal. Add to the extra issues of a fully covered trike, like wiping rain off, cleaning and the storage/parking and the market gets even smaller.

Absolutely, but as Sir Clive found out with the earlier C5's....nobody wants one.
now the Gtech bike looks pretty cool so if you had a SINCLAIR bike that was half the price of the Gtech then they would make a killing. (that's what Sinclair did....gave the consumer a product for a fraction of the price)
I think you'd look such a wally riding one of those over here, plus eventually you'd end up crushed by the axels of one of those crazy four wheel drive trucks the Americans seem to love so much. SMIDSY.

I don't mean it's expensive for what you get (taking into account the parts and other costs), or that it's not a competitive price for similar items - I don't know about either of those price concerns. I mean that the price just plain seems much too high for something that most people won't see as either a necessity or something that is in any real way the sort of thing that they'd want to buy. Ideally, it should be cheap enough to entice people who'd buy it more out of curiosity or to be able to say "I'm saving the planet by driving one of these".

Yes. And maybe in countries with less heavy traffic then they'd seem safer, but on the crowded English roads I'd prefer something that offers more protection if you're hit by another vehicle. Or is the shell tougher than it looks?
I still think it looks like something out of a very cheap movie rip off of Robocop, though.
Yes, you could ride that anywhere without people pointing and laughing, which is pretty important to most normal people. Admittedly the new C5 thing is aiming at a different market (it keeps you dry in the rain, has three wheels so it's stable even if you're not :-O , can carry your shopping, and can even provide some (not much, but far better than nothing) protection in a collision) but no one will take you seriously if you drive one. Still, if it does the claimed 50km on five pence worth's of electricity then it's definitely a step in the right direction. Just reduce the price to well below four figures, get the shell designed by someone who hasn't watch Logan's Run, give it a catchy name, and then it might stand a chance at success.
And maybe put in a heater, for winter use (and minimise drafts as much as possible). Actually, the British government could help sales a little by making them except for road tax and the congestion charges in London. That might provide some incentive for buyers. Although no, when has the government ever supported anything that made sense?
For $9000 you could also get a lot of unicycles and buy a bunch of creme eggs with the change.
Yes titanium framed. Don;t know about the creme eggs ( well remembered), I vegan now. It's the only way I could stop the wife putting them in my lunch box.

Yes - not a fan of the look of it myself. Some of the computer renderings look ok, but the video if it on the "open road", it looks just plain silly
