    What now?
  • Not terrible but trying way, way, way, too hard to be lo-tech, lo-fi, edgy, and weird....Failing quite badly at all of them...

    A little bit annoying actually...

  • It's from the early 1980s if that's the one you're talking about. These people have been around since the 60s.

Nice mix. And there is a nice, very tenuous Speccy connection here too.
I've worked with / friends with around half of the producers listed on your 'fluid funk' mixes, through one of the promoters I work with as a VJ. Which means they've performed on stage in front of visuals created with SpecBAS :)

Yeah remember those freaky eyeball head people from years ago, my cousin found it quite amusing that I found them a little disturbing.

Haha, brilliant! Any Speccy link works for me, tenuous or not. :D Although I don't know anyone on that list personally, I wouldn't be surprised if we had a couple of mutual friends somewhere within that "scene". Small world, and all that. :)

    Oooooh Intelligent :))

It's good this is on youtube though I can play it at work through my Bluetooth speaker, and yeah sounds good....I like it anyway.

I remember back in about 2012 Chris saying a load of D'n'B forum "intelligent" types saying his mixes sucked, but they were better than any of the shitty "mixtapes" you could buy in a shop. I still listen to that Halloween mix from 2010 every year at Halloween I f**in' love it :))

    "There are Zombies here!!!!" :))

I'm sure even after all these years those too cool bass bin sitting knob heads from back in the day will say it sucks.....F**k them wankers though. Some of the north-east "intelligent" types, well let's just say I know at least 3 of them that got stabbed at D n' B nights...That's not good, but it happened anyway.

Types who did it were the Congo Natty types as well (Which is hilarious since Congo Natty is actually the Rebel MC....But then again we all knew he was street tuff) :))

When I first started working clubs in the nineties - when the genre 'drum and bass' had only just emerged from jungle, I was always pretty wary of dnb events - they were a bit too fashionable, and did attract that 'badboy' element. Saw things kick off in a few places. The trick back then seemed to be choosing a gay club to take over if you wanted a trouble free dnb night.
These days I do work for a few 'liquid' promoters, and find the events to have some of the friendliest atmospheres of anything I'm involved with on the rave scene, now dnb has fallen out of the mainstream. Just music lovers and party lovers left, in a scene small enough to feel like an extended worldwide family.

  • most aggro ive ever encountered at a dnb night was when some random douchenozzle nicked my cig from out my mouth as i was smoking it! never seen that done before, lol. wasnt much of a raver in the 90s tho, went to club kinetic in stoke a few times and goldie's blue note sunday session and maybe 3 other events. never saw any fights iirc

That happened to me on the way home from town in the middle of the week at about 11:30 pm.

Was walking home, couple of Berghaus wearing skippies asked me if I had a spare snout, they saw me throw my box away seconds before they asked me so they knew I didn't....One of the little shits whipped my snout out my mouth, as I was telling the other one I didn't have a spare one...Was about to give em' the lecture of "There's no such thing as a spare snout", instead I ended up in a bit of a ruckus with 2 of the little bastards spider monkeying me. Funny thing is they got the snout, and I smacked both of them a good few times.

I thought afterwards I'd had the sh*t kicked out of me, until I realized I wasn't hurt at all, and I'd just bought another 20 pack of Benson at the all night garage.

I think I hurt one of them though I was doing martial arts at the time, and I went to f**king town on the pair of them I wasn't going to get the sh*t kicked out of me for a snout, so I fU*cking swung at them as much as they swung at me, I think I won in the end? :))

    Maybe?

being a yellow belt in judo i obviously couldve unleashed some serious whoop arse on the kid that stole my cig, but decided to let him live :)

    Cheers Boozy! :)

I quite like that people are calling it "liquid" (or "jazz and bass") these days. "Intelligent D&B". Really can't stand that term. Sure I've ranted about it here in the past. :D
  • That's why I said it :p

The Hardstep, Darkside, Darkstep, Drumstep, Junglist, Ragga Beatz kids I knew got angry at all the pretentious twats with their "intelligent", as to them it implied their particular area of D n' B might as well be called "unintelligent" or "idiot".

That's probably half the reason the stabbings I mentioned above happened, mind you the "intelligent" guys I knew were totally up themselves with some mad superiority complexes so I'm not surprised the harder people wanted to f**k them up severely...

I like most of the factions to be honest, but I'm a sucker for some mellow chimes, flute and sax loops, and fast, quiet but complex drums, over a good solid, but not overly aggressive bassline.

Listen to me....Sounds like one of those "intelligent" types myself now :))
