Redefining Keys

edited August 2005 in Emulators
wondering if there is any way that keys can be redefined in games that don't allow it (E.g Hunchback 1).
(at the minute, it is some crazy config like Q=left - not sure of others!!)

i normally use Spin or Spectaculator for emulation, and find that if you could redefine your own keys like most other emulators it would be a vast improvement - can this be done?

Yes - in SPIN, set the keystick to "user defined" and then hit the "Define Keys" button next to it.

Hit each direction button in turn and tap the key that you want it to correspond to.

When done, the cursor keys and Ctrl will work as the keys you've set. If you don't like the cursor keys then you can use the "customize" button to change them to whatever PC keys you like, in a similar manner to the "Define Keys" option.

Whilst playing the game, press F7 or use the small "keyboard" icon on the toolbar to activate the keystick.

Well, all I can say is that it works here - I've been playing hunchback 1 on the cursor keys via the keystick.

If you set your keystick up, start hunchback and find that it don't work... Quit SPIN immediately (don't end the task, use the quit button) and then find your SPIN.ini and any *.spincfg files. Attach them to an email to me, and I'll take a look.

what the hells wrong with Q for left?

    QAOP space is the best

    but

QWPL SPACE would be second best

better than those crappy cursor keys anyroad

    yeah, emulation on a PC.

I would prefer QAOP + Space or CURSORS + CTRL.

QAOP + Space every time, there's something natural about using your thumb on the SPACEBAR to fire.

SPACE on PC, but on real spectrum SYMBOL SHIFT. "M" was too far form my thumb.

Perhaps my paw differs from yours somehow :)

most? when I started my EmuZWin I made it mainly because most of emulators had this feature omitted or restricted a lot. EmuZWin allows to redefine keys in any ways and almost all the keys on keyboard or joysticks can be remapped to any Speccy keys or joystick.
