Crazy prices for ZX-Spectrum 128K ???

What's going on with the prices for the 128K? I checked on eBay and saw the sold listing...Did this become a collectable?
I had one that I gave away to my cousin just 4 years ago. Maybe I should have kept it 8-|

  • LOL, you should have kept it. Anyway it puzzle me too.
  • The best one I saw was for a toast rack in a perfect box & poly's, powerpack & leads & paperwork etc, but no extras, go for £800, and a couple more for around £600
Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........
  • Those prices are absolutely insane. In August 2012 I purchased from ebay a boxed, mint condition 128K with a tape recorder thrown in as part of the deal for € 100.

  • Yes maybe ,in the late 1980s , I should not have hacked my heatsink on it about to put it in a "better" DK keyboard . But no-one gets a tech "crystal ball"
  • I got mine November 2015. It had no box (although was wrapped in about £10s worth of bubble wrap) and came with an RF lead and some manuals. It was in pretty good condition inside and out, although one finn on the heat sink was slightly bent, and both the machine (and the membrane) worked perfectly.

At £90.80, inc. postage, I considered it a pretty good deal at the time as I'd seen some similar examples, even marked with the classic; "worked when I last tested it in 1991," go for upwards of £100.

Prices on Speccies in general do seem to have been on a permanant increasing trend since, however, the 128k itself always seems to demand a higher price tag - boxed or not?

Don't forget I live on Mars, right next to the McDonnalds, you can't miss it, unlike on Earth, we only have one, but the Mc Mars Burger, is to die for !

About checking them out, all I can say is " They worked the last time I tried them, but they have been in the loft / cellar, for the last 60 years, I don't have a tv to try them out on, but they should be fine, also I can't find the leads to try them, but they will be included, also I don't know how much they would cost to post so I would charge £100 postage. They would be well wrapped, in one sheet of newspaper and a piece of string, If your package does not arrive within six months, I would advise you to wait another six months before leaving negative feedback ". Ha-Ha-Ha ! ;-)
