Is the Gatling Gun guy a boss or a Wheelchair Hunter? I ask cos' one screens worth of "loading screen bumph" mentions wheelchair hunters usually shoot pistols, but sometimes prefer to come at you with Gatling Guns or Flamethrowers (Dunno why but the Wheelchair Hunters remind me of granpa' from Texas Chainsaw Massacre) :))

Yeah I already had the Cathedral Ward Round Plaza Key unlocked in the Hunters dream, but never bought it because I figured I could buy it when I found the gate, which incidentally I did just a few minutes ago after killing the other giant fella on the stairs. Noticed the big enemies in this game can be baited like you could with them on Demon's Souls, they'll only follow you so far which then means you can sneak up on them again and again.

Maybe I'll go down in the tomb for now? If it's not going to mess the story up, I've already had a few instances where things were slightly different to other peoples playthroughs. I almost wish I'd summoned Father Gascoigne in the middle of the Street in Yharnam now instead of fighting him in the Cemetary, just to see what happened? Who knows maybe if you summon him early he'll be saved?...and if not I feel like he'd have been a lot easier to fight in the street, than in the Cemetary...You have no idea how many times I ran up those stairs and then jumped off the roof again when he was in his beast form :))

The DLC? Is that "The Old Hunters" or whatever it's called? It's $19.99 on PSN here, so probably about 15 quid after currency differences I suppose. Looks alright, but the write up for it was quite confusing.

Actually that got me thinking since I've done Gascoigne and unlocked Cathedral Ward I'm gonna pop back to Yharnam quickly and see if Gerald has anything interesting to say?

  • The wheelchair hunters are just you're basic enemy types and probably the easiest enemy in the game to dodge. Gatling Gun Hunter (just found out his name is Djura) isn't a boss, just one the many hunters you have to defeat. He sits on top of a tower and dogs your pursuit throughout the level. When you get to his tower at least his gun is bolted down so he can't come after you with it :-) He can be tough to kill and it's really annoying if you knock him off the tower into a place where you can't pick up his loot!

I didn't realise you can summon Father Gascoigne until you mentioned it! You won't be fighting him though, he'll just help out with the Cleric Beast and then disappear until you meet him in his area. It never even occurred to me to leg it up those stairs - I usually get trapped behind a gravestone and subsequently trounced.

Yeah, the DLC is The Old Hunters. Well worth the money, some of the levels are the best in the game and that's seriously saying something as Bloodborne has arguably the best game world ever created, but it is really (REALLY) difficult. You won't be accessing it until you've beaten Vicar Amelia and even then I'd say wait until your at the final boss in the normal game (don't NG+ as you'll have to wait until you beat Amelia again and it will be even harder in NG+ mode). In the first level of the DLC Hunters are normal enemy types and the first boss, Ludwig, took me dozens of attempts. Amazing feeling when I finally completed it though.

Yep, you unlock it as one of the underboss perks, from Vito I think. I know what you mean, that game really goes out of its way to send you out of your way! :D

So i need to keep on playing until it unlocks? This could take a while!
Plus is there any point in wiretapping all the junction boxes?

I'll second this, especially the part about NG+ as the DLC is seriously tough going! The first boss is regarded as one of the toughest in the game and the final boss quite often comes in at number one of the toughest bosses in any of the "souls" games! He's a real pain and I've still not beaten him yet. I can't even get close to beating him :))

The DLC is tremendous though. The second area in a tall building with big, winding staircases is probably my favourite location in the whole game. It's worth playing just for that!

Also of note is that in no way can you interfere with the story by opening different areas. You only need to go through about 5 or 6 levels and the rest is up to you, but everywhere is worth exploring well for the rewards you can get.

To be honest, I can't remember the ins and outs of it all exactly, but according to this list, Vito needs to have an income of $140,000 for the perk to unlock, so you need to assign a district and some rackets to him to raise his income. I think I assigned each of the underbosses three districts each (think there may be ten though, in which case I would've given Vito the extra one), and then just assigned each racket to whoever I'd left in charge of the district each racket happens to be in.

Wiretapping basically allows you to recruit the bosses of the rackets you take over, which in turn earns you more money. It also makes collectables appear on the map, if you're into that sort of thing. You don't need to wiretap every box though. Once you wiretap a box, the map should show how big an area is covered by that particular junction box - so basically as long as the rackets you're taking over are all in a wiretapped area, you're good to go. :)

Still playing it but not done the camel yet. Playing a lot of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe too with the kids. Still think the Switch is great - multiplayer MK is fantastic, not enjoyed MK as much since the SNES original.

That's the Orphan of Kos isn't it? I managed to beat him after a few goes but it was real skin-of-the-teeth stuff - next hit wins kind of thing! You just have to keep moving... fast. I found Ludwig much, much harder to the point that I almost gave up on it. It was only your good self saying you got past him that encouraged me :-)

The only thing annoying thing about the DLC was that I missed one of the weapons to Platinum it. And it wasn't even that seemingly impossible weapon with those two shark-like creatures down the well!

I managed to get the Orphan into his second stage a couple of times, but he's just far too random and quick for me! Ludwig was a big stumbling block too as I found him really hard (to the point where I was even thinking of making a new character and trying to beat him without the NG+ scaling), but I guess I just got lucky one time.

I've not even tried for that weapon you're talking about. The first time I saw one of those enemies, I beat it no problem at all, but that was definitely a fluke as they usually one shot me now (they can eat you I think). There is a way down there without going down the well itself, so I might try that and see if I can get the weapon without having to beat two at once.
  • Found that Fallout 3 was half price on GOG so bought that and downloaded it.
Been playing it for the last hour until something killed me (not sure what it was as the death was so quick :)) )
It's very much like New Vegas in style, it's set in Washington DC and i have about 500 quests to complete. The graphics are fine for 2008 and it runs very smoothly. I'll no doubt be playing it later on.

Here's a few of my recent escapades in Bloodborne.

    Orphan of Kos DLC NG+
It was nowhere near as close as I thought it was. Kos is one tough ****.

    Rom NG++
One of the few times I summoned help, but it was a good scrap. This was about the 12th attempt! I f***ing hate Rom...

    Father Gascoigne NG
Boozey inspired me to start over again and I got to Gascoigne within an hour and smashed him at the first attempt! Get in!

    Yahar'gul NG++
Probably the most difficult part of the game and I cannot believe I smashed all three Hunters in one go at the first attempt. Normally I kill one, die, kill another, die... I was quite lucky though, normally that second Hunter gets to you before you can kill the first one.

  • Well after 5 days unplugged from gaming I'm firing the PS4 up, time for Bloodborne again methinks!

  • Bloodborne....

Right I'm heading to fight Djura, doing my best not to get shot or eaten along the way. Spent all my echoes first figured if I have nothing to lose it won't be so annoying when he rips me to pieces.

Almost maxed out all the weapons I've got as far as they'll go, as the game has been strangely generous with blood shards so far. Looks like I need twin Bloodshards now to further upgrade my main weapons though, not got any of them yet. I've got 2 blood Gems in my Saw Cleaver, and I've got quite handy at using the Hunter's Axe, so I'm doing OK for the time being.

Old Yharnam is very creepy, I guess the hairy beasties that jump out on you here is what the regular Yharnamites will eventually end up looking like, poor buggers. It's best there's somebody like me to chop them up I think :))
    Every night is curry night!
  • Rrrrrrrrgh! I'm annoyed 1st time I got to Djura, I was kicking his arse! Staggered him 3 times and almost killed him, then the sod staggered me, and erm pretty much finished me off with 1 hit. Next time I almost killed him, but fell off the tower, time after that he whitewashed me, barely touched him, then time after that we basically ran around in circles shooting each other, was a bit silly really.

Quit playing as I have to go to the visitation for my wife's dad in about 45 minutes, so I'm doing some physio type exercises on my finger, and they bloody hurt, but they need to be done, let's hope the pressure doesn't pop the bugger open again.

Is that the guy with the gun who shoots you from the tower in old Yharnam? If so, he's really easy to cheese! As soon as you reach the top of the ladder just charge directly at him and you should just knock him off! Then, simply reset at a lantern and Return to where he was for his gear.
  • Yeah I thought about doing that cos' I noticed he stands up and turns around slowly before you get to him, but stupid here was taking a few seconds at the top of the ladder so I could lock onto him, and throw a Molotov at him. Rushing him was probably the next thing I was going to try. As conventional fighting seems a bit hit n' miss, but I was trying not to knock him off the tower as Vampyre said it's a bugger if you do that and he falls somewhere you can't pick his gear up.

But if all you have to do is go back afterwards then I have nothing to worry about.

  • Alright! Much like Gascoigne, I've ran around after killing Djura, and I'm close to taking on Vicar Amelia, and I've once again found pink messengers much like before I fought the Cleric Beast with the summon Father Gascoigne.

I'm outside the tower, and I've got pink messengers saying "Summon Henrette"? I have no idea who that is? I have no idea if I have to fight them later, but I'm gonna take a chance and go for it...I'm summoning Henrette! After I go back to the Hunters Dream and spend the stupidly large amount of echoes I got getting here......Really shouldn't have so many from the bitchwork it took to get here.....It's only 30000 or so, I bet Vampyre and Bob are laughing at that (well it takes me at least 333300000, to level up now :))
    Every night is curry night!
  • 900,000 to level up atm :-) and the only stat that actually increases anything is health :-( Most stats cap at 50 but do trickle a increase sometimes, although Stamina is 40. Currently at 92 health and everything else in the 50's. Something like Level 270.

Summoning only gets them to help you. You may fight them later but summoning has no effect on this.

You're not far away from the Blood-Starved Beast now. Make sure you have some poison remedies for that fight.
  • Finally finished Tales from the Borderlands. Quite a fun story, some nice humour in there, makes me want to play the borderlands games now.

Also was quite amused when I was handed my first Platinum PS4 trophy after essentially watching an animated film... :))

Now trying another one of the free ones for this month, Life is Strange. Another story-driven game. My arcade playing skillz are going to atrophy even more at this rate...

Life is strange is a wonderful and deep game, humour, darkness, good characters and music as well. Is it the full 5 episodes or just the first one ? Also where from for free ? Perhaps others would like the link !

I see Steam are offering the first episode FREE but £15.99 per episode for the other four, I got mine on a special offer ages ago.

    http://www.lifeisstrange.com/index.php

The standard edition is available for PC on Amazon for £16.49 ( all 5 episodes )

The limited edition one is about £40

I'm not keen on paying money for episodic games but will happily play it if it's free..!

That was how I beat him anyway. The first time I got to him, I just rushed him and he fell off! I went down to get his stuff and I couldn't get to it, like Vampyre said. I was very disappointed with that at the time, but I discovered that once I'd left the area and returned that his stuff was waiting for me at the top of the tower in his usual starting spot.
  • ooh forgot to check out the new ps4 freebies, not been on it tbh, what with the missus watching tv and the eldest playing on it...shes got it set to primary for her boyfriends account so she can now play all his games lol, she was playing dead rising the other day and we dont own it :))

  • my old asstant manager at work suggested doing that so we could play each others games, but I ain't seen him in about 3 months now.

Anyway I'm still playing bloodborne, and I gave Vicar Amelia a shot, pfffft I was doing pretty good, then she killed Old Hunter Henriett, and started regenerating her health. I've got some of that Cold Mist stuff, but once she started regenerating it was a mad fumble with my quick slots to get it up on the screen, by the time I'd got to it she'd already regenerated, and I skipped past it by accident. Then I stabbed myself in the leg and dropped my health by accident, I didn't need more bullets :))

Threw a few molotovs at her, was using the flame sprayer instead of my gun, seemed to work OK. I noticed in the shop I've unlocked Rope Molotovs now? Might buy a few of those to see if they're any use.

I've only got 6 of those cold mist things, and I can't buy any more, so I have no idea if it's a good idea to use them all now, same with fire paper, got 5 or 6 of those, used one of them, and my swings were doing decent damage.

I fear I may have to grind a bit so I can buy some supplies, I've unlocked a few more weapons as well, and now it's finally letting me upgrade my guns, so there's some more grindage required. Almost have enough twin bloodshards to upgrade one of my main weapons again. I could really use that 3rd gemstone slot right about now.

Well I spoke to Eileen the Crow, and she told me not to go to Oedon Tomb because Henryk has gone mad, whoever he is, so I'm obviously going to go there, because I'm sure I'll get something from him if I kill him, although it might make her a bit angry?

I noticed she's very hard to spot, I only even realised she was there cos' it flashed up talk on the screen, and for a second I was like "Talk to who"? Then I spotted her.

Oh b*llocks! I noticed as well if Old Hunter Henriett dies it uses one of you Insight up, that's not good, even though I have no real idea what it's for anyway. Although I notice you can use it to buy the Hunters clothes who you've killed from the messengers upstairs in the Hunter's Dream. I've had Gascoigne's available for ages now, and now I have Djura's, as well. Bit pricey though.

  • I wouldn't bother spending Insight on armour as you'll get better stuff just by playing anyway. Spend it on co-op when you're REALLY stuck on a boss or save them for a Blood Rock, which costs 60. Blood Rocks are needed to upgrade weapons to +10 and IIRC there's one, maybe two, available per playthrough.

You can also use Insight for Blood Chunks although there are a fair few around anyway. These upgrade weapons from 7 to 9. There's a farm spot for them in Upper Cathedral Ward by killing the werewolves but they're not a guaranteed drop.

It's possible to farm Insight by defeating the first three bosses in the first Chalice Dungeon. I can get 6 Insight in about 5 minutes. Just place the chalice, farm the bosses, exit dungeon, remove chalice, place chalice again, repeat...
