  • Sounds like the God of War games when you're in an "epic" fight scene against a giant boss, or about 100 grunts it has a habit of zooming right out so you're the size of an ant onscreen. Yes the scenery looks amazing, yes the pores on the skin of the bosses hands and face are very, very detailed, but I want to be able to see what my pixel sized character is actually doing....

Don't know about Zelda, but I keep seeing this advert for the Switch that shows a load of party mini-games using the controller halves separately, and they all seem to be, basically, masturbation contests... <:-P

Yeah, 123 switch, sounds shit, I know it's cheaper but still a rip off, should've come with the console

I don't think it was needed though was it? The Wii was such a radical departure from what came before that something like Wii Sports was necessary to show gamers and developers what the Wii was all about.

  • Or package it with a controller like they did with Wii Play.

I wonder if it will be £10 sometime soon? The adverts for it make it look shite, it does actually look shite and probably is shite. I jut want to try it for the HD rumble. Apparently the rumble is so good it can even make it feel like there's multiple marbles rolling around inside the controller.

I saw this question posted online the other day and it really made me think. I assume most of us Switch owners have probably got another console too (I have a PS4) and the question was "if a AAA game was multi-platform (Switch, XB1, PS4) - and they're all the same price and have the same online features - which one would you buy?"

The obvious answer is XB1/PS4 as they're obviously the more powerful machines but then I got thinking about the sheer accessibility of the Switch and the fact that graphics don't bother me all that much (Zelda looks great IMO, I really don't get the complaints). In the space of a month my gaming habits have changed. I would never before have switched a console on in the morning or when I get home from work or when the rest of the family is in the front room as family life doesn't really allow for it.

I've had other mobile gaming platforms in the past but I've never enjoyed them as much as the TV console experience. Hand cramps were always a problem and until the Switch the screen size has always been pants (even Vita). Not any more - Switch is by a country-mile the best handheld ever. Bite-sized gaming doesn't really appeal to me, but they've proved with Zelda that the AAA gaming experience is very much possible on a handheld. Even the mighty Vita couldn't manage that and eventually all the developers gave up even trying.

So I now take the Switch with me in the morning when I go for a dump, I grab the Switch when the missus is watching the soaps, etc. Couple that with the fact it's literally seconds to start playing a game and the handheld controls being more or less perfect then the Switch being "good enough" might just sway me for the big titles.

So an Elder Scrolls 6, Witcher 4, PES 2018, etc I might just consider the Switch a better proposition (I know it's a long-shot they'll even appear on it, but with the way it's selling...). Heck, I've barely switched on the PS4 in a month and haven't missed it in the slightest. Anyone else feel the same?

exactly the same, we have the one HD telly (so can only plug all these new fangled HDMI cables into the one) and its in the front room, missus has normally got the telly on so i just lift it out the dock and bugger up stairs.
Having said that, prolly 99% of the time i play it as a handheld lol, even when i could, i enjoy laying on the bed chilling, playing it (zelda tut)
Sometimes i really wish the PS4 (which i bought the same day) had the same accessabillity so i can play resi evil more, thats currently on the backburner lol
Skyrims coming out for the switch at some point too

  • Yeah, its kinda strange how my attitude has changed so quickly. The tethering of the PS4 to the TV now feels horribly limiting (and I tried the streaming to Vita which worked pretty well but the lack of buttons on Vita just didn't work for 99% of games) and the Dualshock feels really bulky in the hands too.

All the Switch now needs is some more games, although all I've done is play Zelda for a month. At least Mario Kart's out soon.

  • Interesting question, I haven't even plugged my Switch into the TV yet! It's definitely more tempting to have gaming anywhere, but then the Xbox online and store is heaps better than the Switch.

IIRC it displays on the back of the case if it streams well or not. If you're wireless network is up to it then it is quite impressive but the lack of L2/R2 triggers on the Vita is crap. You have to use the touchpad on the back instead and it doesn't work well at all. IF they'd have added those, like Nintendo did with Switch, then Vita may have been a lot more successful.

  • just seen the following
+Nintendo announced that its new hybrid console sold more than 906,000 units in the U.S. in March, making it #Nintendo's fastest-selling console yet. Oh yeah, the Switch version of The Legend of #Zelda: Breath of the Wild sold more units than the actual console for an attach rate above 100 percent.

the switch version of zelda has sold more copies than the machine??? hows that work then? lol

Buy game for £45, flog game to CEX for £48. Repeat that a few times and you have a small profit for the day.

  • I'm guessing a lot of people buying the limited edition versions, planning to flip them later for big money.
  • Just ordered a Hori playstand for it, you can then play it in tabletop mode while its charging, cos obviously in the usual dock you can only play in tv mode, but i tend to use mine more in handheld mode.

Noticed it was £11.99 with free delivery on argos's site and £24.99 on amazon Oo
    so i ordered quick.

Also, Mario Kart is out next friday (i think?) 28th, got it on pre order w00p w00p

  • well got mi play stand today, its tiny lol and just like 3 bits of plastic with a dint in the bit the switch stands on so you can plug its power lead into the center of the bottom of the switch. I'd be peed off if i paid £25 for it lol, the missus wasnt impressed as it was.

  • £49! I thought it was an indie game!

apparently it is, but £49 seems to be the going price for switch game carts new, in some places they seem to either go higher or start a bit higher too

So who's going to be the first to write a Speccy emulator for it...

AS long as we can write a good game with Nintendo Basic and it has a compiler to make it faster then I might be interested. Hopefully programs can be saved, compiled as stand alone code and freely distributed to another Switch user upon an SD card or something.

Games for the Switch might get into the double figures soon :D
