  • The best thing about this is we may see the return of Malcolm Tucker and The Thick of It.

Also the series boasts the first ever female producer in Verity Lambert in 1963 and the first ever director was Waris Hussein, who was a gay Asian man at a time when homosexuality was still a criminal offence for men.

See! It's got so bad at the BBC now that the lefty PC do-gooder brigade are even using the TARDIS to travel back in time to subvert the honest Christian values of Lord Reith's fine organisation!

(sarcasm if that wasn't obvious) :p

To suggest we're just being sexist is not only missing the point (that we honestly think the character won't work as a woman), but is insulting too.
Yes, that's why I posted it. You're all being an arse, the lot of you. FFS, it's fiction you idiots. None of it's real, and it will either be watchable or it will not. You're all acting like the beeb has come round and stomped on your toys.

And Matt Smith was a great Doctor, his acting was really good, I thought.
Oh come on. Now you're just taking the ****.

I think you meant Girlcotted (in the PC spirit) :P

  • Matt Smith was a good doctor....better than bloody Eccleston.....at least he had a personality!

I think everybody forgets sometimes when mentioning the reboot, that a lot of the old series is also complete shite ...

All of the other Doctors have had terrible episodes, and all of them have had good ones...well, at least one good one....
  • All DrPoo is shite :p
    So far, so meh :)

Has anyone considered how the Doctor actually feels about it?
Maybe after 900 years (or however old the Doctor is), the Doctor might enjoy being a different gender.... might be bored after so many regenerations and thinking "Oh, the same genital configuration yet again"

edit: also maybe the Doctor's future missions are contingent on being a woman.... perhaps the Doctor will give birth to a new time traveller.....

It's a TV program that I take seriously. I don't watch Eastenders, for example, but if the BBC did something that serious viewers of the program felt was totally wrong, and complained about it, I wouldn't post insulting drivel like you typed above. Yes, it's just fiction, and football is just sport, and Malteasers are just chocolates, etc, but when things get changed, then sometimes fans disapprove and they are free to make their opinions known. No one is saying that the BBC people should be put up against the wall and shot, or even proposing a mass-boycott of the program, we're just saying what we think, and accepting the decision to cast a woman, albeit it begrudgingly and with the fear that the new series will turn out very badly.

Have you seen the (once was a) comedy, Not Going Out? It used to be really funny, then went downhill, and just when it was utterly awful (the Christmas episode set in a department store), they found a new depth to plumb - they introduced three young kids (aged about four or six or so). Has introducing young kids into a comedy ever made it funnier? Not only that, but they seem to have combed the entire UK looking for the three most wooden, unconvincing kids ever.
  • The US TV shows swear by having a young kid to boost ratings ;)
What would have TNG be without Wesley, I ask you.
    Sod it!

reminds me of about 10 years ago when match of the day had its first ever female commentator on the highlights. it caused similar kerfuffle iirc

and without wanting to sound like neanderthal man there was just something so, so wrong with hearing a woman commentate on 'live' play. it made me cringe hard, I couldnt help it.

  • Not so much that it's PC..It's just changing times really. Doctor was male because everything was a patriarchy. Now the northern part of the world that is very much a matriarchy(or gone back to being a matriarchy)..it makes sense for the doctor to become female. She can get more done. Men are redundant and weak for a while now, not really needed except to slog away for women and beg for sex, making a fool of themselves, increasingly existing only to serve women, being pitiful. Whereas women are just brilliant. Not even needing to be that good looking to find some daft male to serve their needs. Not needing to be that intelligent, not needing to have money or careers. Hmm, like a man that lives on his own is a sad loser whereas a woman or her own is a fiercely independent chick. It's so much more straightforward. Get dolled up..pull some guy, do what the hell you like these days. Poor men can't breath, can't even talk to children other than their own. Practically just a hairy beast that's capable of sex crimes at the drop of a hat. OK..I'm just fooling around..but it is changing times. Doctor can get more done as female. Makes sense. :)

Yeah, how can you call those overpaid whining children running around a field for 90 minutes and occasionally falling over a sport! :p

  • ST:DS9 had a character that changed genders, that was back in the 90's. So, get with the times already and get over it posthaste.
    What now?
  • So today the news was awash with the BBC and pay and the gender gap so expect more of our top shows turning girlie lol

I wasn't even thinking about feminazis, until I read a few of the above posts.

Do I need to type things like Patriarchy, Matriarchy, rape, rape, rape, rape, and rape, and maybe Anita Sarkesian?...oh and a double quadruple dose of rape, on top of the already mentioned rape?

    Rape, rape, rape'ty rape.......RAAAAAPE!

I have a penis, I've never used it to rape anybody, but apparently these days just cos' I have a dick I'm a rapist, because I may have looked at a womans...Erm Sorry a Wimmin's arse as I walked past...

Tell you what you frumpy pink haired rug munchers, do me a favour f*ck off! I'm done pandering to your pathetic 3rd or 4th generation feminism bullshit. Feminists achieved their goals years before any of you were born, you have no idea what the f*ck you're supposedly fighting for anymore. You're like any other pathetic pressure group spouting your "equality" babble when really what you mean is superiority for you....and your handful of insecure friends.

Hope the female doctor ticks all the correct boxes, and doesn't just became another "fighting f*ckdoll", pandering to the "patriarchy empowered she-puppets"....

I think I started off taking the p*ss there, and made myself a bit annoyed actually...
