I usually use a mouse mat, even with today's optical mice, as long as there's room for it, as it gives consistency of response. Optical mice can give unreliable responses or erratic movement on some hard and/or shiny and/or uneven surfaces.

Funnily enough I saw some in one of our local 'bargain shops' yesterday while on a rare visit looking for something completely unrelated (which they did not have)
I think if I'm confused then it's peak hipster, right? You can't fight irony with irony, it makes you no better than them.
Like with Nazis (I live in Charlottesville btw - our new slogan is "Charlottesville - More Than Just Nazis").
Do you actually see Nazis openly walking about in every day life (with Swastikas on their arm bands or whatever, so you know what they are)? I can't imagine that. I know of course that such 'people' exist, but I can't imagine how they can publicly flaunt what they are in day to day life.
I mean, granted, a Nazi himself (or herself, though it's very difficult to believe emotionally that a woman can be like that) won't see himself as a racist, hate fuelled piece of ****" (it's just everyone with a brain who sees them like that), and they must believe in the vile drivel that they try to spread, but even so, you'd think they'd only meet up in private, at least when they're dressed in the Nazi stuff. If someone around here (northwest of England) dressed openly like a Nazi, they'd probably get beaten up, car and house vandalised, etc. And there'd be no witnesses, no one would have seen a thing, and no one would care about the worthless ******.
At the very least, then in any civilised country you'd expect someone who openly followed the Nazi ideology to be totally shunned and detested by everyone (and unable to get a job either, who'd want to employ someone with those sort of views). I suppose you can't make Nazism illegal (as long as it's just an expressed viewpoint and not carried to the length of actually acting on their hatred to the extent of hurting someone) because of freedom of speech and freedom of thought, but it is a difficult decision for the law makers, as even most people who support freedom of speech and the right for any adult to do what they like as long as they don't hurt anyone else (my views, and likely most of the people I know) wouldn't exactly be displeased if Nazism was made illegal (and the Nazis sent to prison for it). It's just that it would set a precedent for any other group to be made illegal and imprisoned, and that could be used in the future by the authorities to 'justify' them getting rid of anyone who legitimately thought the authorities were corrupt and spoke out against them.
But if all the Nazis in the world were rounded up and exiled to an uninhibited island somewhere, with no boats, and with sharks in the surrounding waters, then I doubt we'd hear too many complaints from the rest of the world. Lots of cheering, but few complaints.
Bung in the dictators, the paedophiles, and the people who make fortunes from arms manufacture, and the rest of the world will be almost immeasurably better.
Why do people waste time by pointlessly running around town?
And didn't find it...
That was sort of the point of the topic. Keep up, old bean.
Bizarrely you ran (A sight I'd pay to see) around town and visited most of the shops he'd already tried, did you not trust his ability to distinguish a mouse mat from a fridge?
ewgf... it depends what a Nazi actually is. I mean, if it means that a person is racist, then it has to be treated the same as any other racism. Leftists are quick to label someone a Nazi, usually when they exhibit any opinion that goes against their own, leftists are actually showing themselves to be bigger bigots than anyone else these days. So if being a Nazi just means you're a racist, then it has to be held in the same regard as all those leftist friendly forms of bigotry and racism. Like those feminists who shout 'kill all men' - or BLM who think that white people should give their house to a black family, out of guilt or something. The waters are muddy - they can't make one form of racism illegal, and another not illegal for fear of offending the easily offended bigots out there. I actually think that a lot of this is simply people reacting to what they believe are their rights being trampled on - the Left are so quick to label people a Nazi, maybe anyone who disagrees with them are happier being labelled a Nazi, which includes support from fellow Nazi's - which isn't available otherwise. Society has formed a prison mentality - you pick a side, and that might not necessarily represent your beliefs, but its the best you can do to not be standing on your own. Actions speak louder than words, and thoughts don't speak at all - is this really the decade where freedom of speech goes out the window, and thought police arrest people for having an idea or opinion that one group does not agree with.

No, I was shopping anyway, and I'm supposed to walk a lot every day due to my diabetes and being a fat git, so I just tried various shops since I was in town anyway.
Andrewvanbeck, you make some good points. But even though, as you point out, there are many forms of racism/predjudice/oppression/hatred/etc, even to the point that some small minded people apply the term 'Nazi' to otherwise decent people simply for having a different (perhaps even right) opinion or way of life, my point is that the real, official Nazi groups and their members (who wear swastikas, genuinely regard Hitler as a great man who acted for the greater good, and wish that the Nazi's had won World War 2 and had taken over the world) are regarded by most people as the absolute scum of the world (well, aside from paedophiles and slave traders), and so you'd think it would be wise for those real Nazis to keep their political beliefs a secret, but from what I read about the incident in Charlottesville (what an innocent sounding name for a place where the Nazis, Klu-Klux-Klan, and other hate groups congregate), the Nazis are pretty open about who and what they are.

It's pretty shocking. Freaked me out, still not used to it. But yes and no. There's a right wing blogger who lives in town (who was actually a left-wing activist in the Occupy movement until they kicked him out for being a dick), who's friends with Richard Spencer. Between them they organised everything on a national "grassroots" level (social media and blogs), and bussed in the actual Nazis and 3%er constitutional rights militia from all over the country.
You don't see them out and about daily, but they feel encouraged in mobs, and are quite open with uniforms, swastikas and salutes. After the first rally in May, they hung out all evening in a bar in the trendy area, and openly provoked everyone they could. And restaurants belonging to ethnic immigrants got smashed up.
You do see a lot of confederate flags and guns in the back windows of pickups, especially out in the country. I don't think it's that different to skinheads and the NF in Britain back in the 70s and 80s - more of an excuse to act like arseholes in a mob mentality, but with nasty undercurrents that appeal to alienated/confused/unstable people, and get them a tacit support base from a huge chunk of people who aren't Nazis, just nastily bigoted in private.
I would say the town has a feel maybe like Bristol, but smaller - young, liberal, lots of students and fairly hipster, but with a lot of working class and black people coexisting. All my friends were out counterprotesting. I wasn't because I was away (for the last rally), and because getting arrested on a greencard, and instantaneously deported without right of appeal, is a terrible idea.
A Sega Master plan for his Sega Master System of Hang On! race drivers.
(The thread should still be ok. I used the words "plan", "master", and " race" without actually mentioning anything about Nazis (D'oh!))
Hey, anyways, I saw something interesting on TV just right now. S12E7 of "Mysteries At The Museum" had a tidbit on the C5. Interesting to see/hear a US person talking about it.
My desk doesn't track properly without one :/ I like to keep one in my laptop bag just in case, as well.
I have one of those laptop desks (best life upgrade ever), and I covered the mouse flap with thin spongey foam so the mouse doesn't slip off when I have it at an angle on my knees.

Why are a lot of threads starting to mention Nazis? This is the second one in 2 days.
What on earth have they got to do with mouse mats?
Colonel32 mentioned that he lived in Charlottesville, the scene of the recent Nazi march, so it was fairly natural that the subject of the Nazis came up, especially since I don't understand how or why they can show their vile faces in public.
But yes, it's not a pleasant subject for a thread, so let's get back on topic, and see if I'd be willing to settle out of court with F_Clowder for his despicable act of violating my privacy by taking that photo of me:
and posting it on a public forum. My legal team consists of the best minds at WOS (Boozey, Mel, ZX1, and Lee Forgarty), and together we believe F_Clowder could end up having to pay me millionds of pounds. And individually we believe that aliens once abducted Boozey, that punk music is almost as good as real music, that Elvis Presley works down the local chip-shop (but had plastic surgery to look much younger, female, and nothing like himself), and that PCs catching file is probably part of their design spec.
So, F_Clowder, the ball is in your court. Either pay me £5 million to put this behind us, or me and my brain trust will see you in court. I'm hoping that this disgusting breach of my privacy does go to court, actually, as then I can wear one of those grey wigs that judges and lawyers wear, and no one will know that I'm almost bald!

I tried all three (that I know of) and B&M, but none of them sold mouse mats.

@ewgf Can you please keep your Nazi's fetishs out of WoS please.
Too much Sunday Sport back in the 80's/90's...
