And......................bugger all, it does indeed not go forwards, i can roll etc using the left stick, i can yar using the right stick, but then i cant seem to go anyway?? thought one of the shoulder buttons was thrust forward? but the only one that does anything, sounds like its slowing it right down till silence.
Also targetting, i cant get mi head around, seems to be hit and miss?

  • The Spectrum version of Trivial Pursuits is pretty good, I'm enjoying it even though I'm only playing by myself till I get the controls figured out. After that I'll get my wife to play it with me. I'm surprised at how good it is.

    Playing Yakuza Kiwami again.

I feel like this game is not going to last anywhere near as long as the other games, but that's probably because I'm treading over familiar ground. I'm now trying to tie up some of the more boring, or annoying extra stuff, so I don't get stuck doing it right near the end of the game.

Still only on Chapter 6 though, can't remember exactly how many Chapters Yakuza 1 has, but I'm sure it ended up being more than the games that came after it? Of course they could have trimmed it down for this game. There's not as much content as later releases, but I think there's more extra stuff added than in the original Yakuza.

Not really looking forward to Chapter 7 as I think that's the first one where you have to walk around with Haruka playing all the mini-games and stuff with her....

Oh and the underground Coliseum has had a massive bump in difficulty, I can't even do the first GP on it at the minute, but maybe I'm just not leveled up enough right now.

Oh jeez! I'm playing Yakuza kiwami, and I'm at the very end of Chapter 8, or it could just be Chapter 9? There's so many cutscenes in it I keep forgetting to pause it and check when one isn't playing.

Anyway if anybody has played through Yakuza 1 on PS2 then you'll remember that absolutely evil level with the car chase, that uses the virtua cop style targets that turn red as your enemy is about to shoot you. That's where I am in the game right now, and I'm only on my third attempt, but my stubbornness of not wanting to use any continues on my playthrough is busting my heeeeed! You have to do the rampage through the Chinese Restaurant where you fight Lau Ka Long, before the car chase, there's no save point inbetween cos' it's all cutscenes.

There was a similar car chase in Yakuza 0, that I did first time I think as I remember laughing to myself about how easy it was compared to the car chase from Y1, especially after how much dread I was filled with when I saw what type of level it was. Well let's just say they've captured the original PS2 version of Y1's difficulty perfectly in this version. It's all good until the truck with the rocket launcher guys standing on top of it appears, even with the heat gauge aiming it's ridiculous. The car seems to have a massive health bar compared to the PS2 version, but I can't make Kazuma Kiryu duck inside the car other than to reload. It feels like it should be easier but it just well isn't, it's annoying that's what it is, especially given how much of a walk in the park I've found the game so far. I haven't actually had a game over up until this point, and I kind of knew it was going to happen once I got here. I was just hoping since they rebuilt Kiwami up using the Yakuza 0 Engine that this part of the game would be as *p*ss easy as the car chase in 0.

    Nope! I'm annoyed!

Still a bloody great game though! :))

EDIT:........and after I typed all that I went and did it on my next attempt :))

  • I'm still trying this Bunker mission in Watchdogs 2 from time to time, i've watched a YouTube playthrough but i still can't do it.
It's a really good game and i'd like to get past this mission to play the rest of the it but it looks like i'm never going to do it. I might keep trying but the time limit is simply too tight.

  • Haha! I still have my original copy of the first watchdogs in the plastic......Might as well have waited 4 years and bought the complete edition for a tenner :))

  • After not playing it for 18 months I've finally gone back to Fallout 4. I've had to knock the difficulty down to Easy as I'm having my arse handed to me regularly (Level 12) - I don't remember it being this hard when I first started playing it! It seems that every group of enemies has a Legendary one in the group - even on Easy I'm struggling.
  • Maybe they bumped the difficulty up with one of the update patches? I haven't played it since last October, or November, but I pretty much played it solidly for a year. Once the end of the year came around it was Yakuza 5, then Elder Scrolls then Yakuza 0, then Bloodborne, and now Yakuza Kiwami. I don't see any more games I want coming out in the immediate future though. Maybe I can finally return to another game after I finish Yakuza Kiwami? Who knows I may have a few months grace where I can finally go back, and partially extinguish the backburner?

Maybe I can have a 3rd stab at starting Sleeping Dogs, or actually get round to playing Watchdogs.

  • It's not exactly been a bumper year for games has it? Outside of the Switch stuff (and I've only got Zelda and Mario Kart although Mario Odyssey is out next month) I'm struggling to really think of anything I've purchased this year. So I'm going through my backlog.

Once (if!) the price drops I'm definitely going to try that Yakuza game.
  • Sounds like I won't, can't play bloodborne or elite dangerous, better not get another hard un lol I'll stick to bugaboo the flea

I'll need to try that out. I haven't played it for a while. I've been too busy on Fallout 3 and a few other games. I think i'm at level 20something? Last time i played it i think i was in Far Harbour.

  • Finished Assassin's Creed - Freedom Cry. Fairly short but reasonably entertaining. The end seemed quite easy - thought it would be a bit tougher.

Have been trying a couple of the PS Plus freebies from this month - "played" though Hatoful Boyfriend a couple of times (quite short and completely bizarre) and am now playing Child of Light which I'm quite enjoying, sort of an arcade-adventure side scroller with JRPG turn-based battle elements chucked in.

Grinding away at Yakuza kiwami still....

I know I could actually go ahead and finish it quite easily now, from how leveled up I am, but where's the fun in that? :))

Although it's quite torturous at the minute, I'm on the very edge of being able to actually use the Dragon of Dojima fighting style again. It's a very, very, long slog to get it to where it's even half useful.

In Yakuza 0 you could level it up with money, in this game you have to fight Majima over, and over, and over, to unlock certain degrees of power, and certain abilities, and certain moves. I won't feel comfortable being able to use it fully until I can upgrade my sidestep, which I have no idea how to do. Just fighting Majima isn't enough to unlock the moves, certain conditions must be met to unlock certain moves. Like having him attack you while you're eating a cheeseburger, or having attack you in Zombie form (Yup that happens), or beating him at a mini-game. Or having him drive you out to the docks in a taxi to fight you on the waterfront.

Also you have to learn Komaki's moves all over again, and you really need them for this game. Even fully leveled up from fighting Majima, you're pretty much still a sitting duck without Komaki's counter moves. Dragon of Dojima is the only fighting style you can use the powerful counter moves with, even a fully leveled up Brawler, Rush, or Beast style still leaves you without much in the way of good counter moves.

Here's the fun part though, in order for Komaki to train you you have to bring him certain ancient Japanese Artworks, which you can only get from fighting in the coliseum. Or he won't train you, the Artworks cost way more points than you gain from finishing a GP in the coliseum so you have to unlock more GP's in the coliseum to gain more points. So in order to level up the last fighting style you have to grind the coliseum, and grind fighting Majima over and over. I mean I'm fine with that half the satisfaction of this series comes from enduring the insane chores it throws at you, but I feel a less patient player would've launched their DS4 through the telly by now.

Sick thing is I still have the Pocket Racer Stadium, and the side quests that go along with it to finish, and I haven't even started the Hostess Clubs yet......Bugger me!

Still don't think this game will last me as long as the others have though.

    Every night is curry night!
  • Now I'm on my laptop and not my Kindle, I can post a few things :))

I've been playing several things as usual, but I'll just mention a few.

inFamous - Second Son Seeing as this is currently free for PS+ gamers, I decided to revisit again and playthrough with Evil Kama and on the highest difficulty in order to get the Platinum trophy. I actually found the highest difficulty to be much easier than my normal playthrough! Some of that is because it's much easier to build up the special attack that wipes everyone out if you're in the right spot, but I actaully had far less issues with the bosses this time too. I was dreading one or two of those, but I only died a few times on each. Great game and I was actually quite sad when my Platinum unlocked as that's everything I can do in that game now. I'll no doubt play it again in a year or two though.

On a side note, I noticed something odd with this game. I previously had this installed from a disc, but decided to delete that and download the PS+ one from the store, purely so that I don't have to mess around with discs to play it now. I already had a part playthrough for my disc game, but that didn't show upin this new download copy and all my sanpshots etc are in it's own folder too. It's odd that the same game uses different saves!

Just Cause 3 Another PS+ free game, but from last month. I'd already played this a lot on XBone and I'm enjoying playing it again on PS4. It's still got a lot of slowdown when things get really busy, but not as much as on XBoone. This game is more fun when you're just running around and clearing out bases. The actual missions are a bit rubbish really, with a lot of having to protect people or things which usually just stand there and soak up bullets. The missions have checkpoints, but if you pass a checkpoint with someone almost dead, then you'l respawn there with them having the same amount of health. This quite often means you have to restart the mission from the begining. I'm enjoying it still though.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul - PSVR My first true scary horror VR game (Rush of Blood isn't the same thing) and it's a bit of a mixed bag. The game itself is basically pretty solid. It looks great and I also have no trouble with motion sickness, but the controls are bit bit off at times. You need a lot of room to play this! You'llneed to crouch down to pick up things from the floor and you need to stand up and play or you'll be slightly off keel with the perspective. I also have the odd issue with opening doors too. sometimes, like the first time I played it, I had no problem at all. The second time (the one I tried to live stream), I couldn't open any of them for some reason. That's more to do with ingame tracking I think as I have little issue with other games.

It's very effective when it works though. It can be very scary when it wants to be and there's always a sense of dread in the air. You're always on edge somewhat when you need to open a new door (when they open :)) ) and it's great when you see someone move in the distance or hear a random noise.

I need to spend more time with it though as I'm still quite early into the game I think. Here's my live stream that I uploaded a week or two back. The quality drops at times thanks to my crappy Wi-Fi but you get the idea.

  • Yakuza Kiwami...

Been on the last chapter for days now, just trying to tie loose ends up, right now I'm fighting Jo Amon, and he's ridiculous. he's got about 10 full health bars, and when you beat him he goes down, lies there for a few minutes gets back up regains about another 10 health bars, and pulls a demonfire dagger out. He now has a spinning move that can 1 shot you as well, no matter what armour or accessories you're wearing. Anybody who's played a Yakuza game to the point of finishing all the sub stories knows just how silly fighting members of the Amon Clan can be, and this my friends is no exception, possibly one the most difficult Amon fights to date, even worse than having to fight 4 of them on Yakuza 4 and 5 :O

This one is totally different from the Amon fight from the original Yakuza. No using electric katanas, stun guns, or Spicy knives to beat this fecker. He doesn't run backwards and forwards throwing grenades at you either. He does have a grenade move, though, and it's an absolute bitch to avoid.

    Fun times!
