Favourite Cover Art?

This is probably covered elsewhere, but let's start a new discussion for this.
I'd like to start with this...

Without doubt my all time favourite cover. The brilliant 80s hand-painted artwork looks great, real effort has been put into it. The picture itself evokes space action perfectly. An astronaut fires from his mounted cannon at a space station, releasing another astronaut out into space. An alien is clinging to the ship, clasping on to the edge of the cannon. Explosions etc. I can't think of a more exciting image for a boy in the mid 80s.

In fact, the cover itself is why Cosmic Cruiser remains one of my favourite games. It is, in fact, crap! But... the cover fires up your imagination enough for you to want to play it regardless. That is what artwork should do, in my opinion.

A modern computer generated pale faced, black coat wearing goth holding a gun and looking moody does nothing for me at all. Where's the imagination?

    My thoughts exactly!

Here for example, although not a game cover but more a magazine cover, that is what make me bought Led Storm at the time.

I am still so impressed by the artwork to this day that I keep wondering why nobody has built such a car!!!
  • Bob Wakelin was arguably the greatest artist for games but aside from those i really was impressed with The Fury.

I liked the game to, took a while to master but weirdly your own car looked more like a ford anglia than a space age super car!

That is a great cover and deserves a far better game than Led Storm!

  • I remember having a poster of the "The Fury" artwork on my wall ... also quite a few CRASH posters and calendars - did anyone else put these up their walls?
  • I had a poster of A View to A Kill that I got from a magazine.
  • I always liked this one

  • In fact, I think most Ultimate artwork is great.

Yup, just a shame their games are so crap!

  • I like Shadowfire.

Nice big chunky box. It shows your squad mates. Has a sexy blue alien-woman ala Startrek, and the image of Zoff V at the top is really clever because thats how the map in the game is laid out.

What could have been better is if the squad was firing their guns. The sequel, Enigma Force, got this right, but for some reason it doesn't feel the same. Plus Zark appears to have multiple arm segments.

From the moment I first saw this game's cover, I wanted to play it. It's a stupid, stupid game but my goodness, the cover is hilarious. It remains my favourite classic game cover art.
  • Damn, my fave is the original Black Crystal, with the slimey green hands - but can't find a good copy of it.

This game was great, a pontential candidate for best 2 quid spent ever....I do like the cover art, even it really had sod all to do with the game :))
    Every night is curry night!
  • Ultimate's artwork was always good, although I was never a fan of their games (JetPac was good though).

I remember liking the cover for Combat Lynx and Starquake.

This isn't a game I was familiar with but after looking it up, it seems like the kind of game I would have loved to play back in the day. I'm going to have to find a copy to play over a weekend, methinks! :)
